Cold hunt - models and chat

Paul
Message added by Paul

Please ensure that the majority of your posts in this thread are model related - a theme of model discussion needs to run throughout.
Some off topic chat and reactions are ok, but please use other, more relevant threads for entirely off-topic chat (such as snow reports, met office forecasts and general chat/moans about the weather or this winter).

For more no banter and just model discussion please head to the new focused model thread - this is also a great place to post (or cross post) your longer model summaries or thoughts around the models.

Day 4 isn’t even sorted yet let alone day 10 models seem to be all over the place..

Exactly! It’s best to just enjoy the wintry weather coming for some next week and take the charts as they come. Anything beyond 96hrs is open to flip-flopping.

The volatility at the moment suggests nothing beyond day 6 is on or off the table.  Keep the faith folks for at least another week or 10 days ❄️

If EC looks like that come 00z run there will be some seriously happy campers in here!

Can we give it until 12z to smell the coffee...0z runs not gone well this year so far!

Model agreement tomorrow afternoon on a major cold outbreak - I like!

ICON 18z bringing a snow event as a front moves eastwards at T90, this bringing the goodies to Midlands southwards. Another small slider event at T114, south of the M4 only.

That was satisfying.

GSFP currently has my area down for ~12 hours of heavy snowfall Tues so it's only downhill from here. I'll be happy with a few flakes...

@Steve Murr what’s your current gut feeling on the position of that low on Tues? Mine is it will go too far south for most? Do you think the UKMO would bring much of southern counties into play?

The M4 corridor could be the sweet spot

So to the ICON, and first up T63, a purple Scrappy Doo:

Second one this year by my reckoning.  Need to check with NOAA whether this is the first winter with two Scrappy Doo vortices...get back to you on that!  I can't find out how this might affect the NAO index, might need to downwell a bit I would suggest!

If you ask me over half the output this year might as well have been out of the mystery machine!

Consistency from this model at least!

Relief......The JMA is finally out, better late than never..... and it's good, the trend setter is back, very good omen!

Makes a change that we get the colder air and its mild to our east and south I must say! Icon looking ok too, I'm a lot happier now.

Indeed and we have gain on such..

Could be an old classic..that i have personaly experienced...from time 2 time in my 43-yrs..

Obviously not on that scale...

But living just north of the corridor..and edging bucks...

We do rather well...

'On the whole'..

Edit an pls dont look at my prof back ground pic and with my 2 eldest daughters and say WOW 43...

ITS GOOD LIVING

Fax charts out....getting closer to the south that little low at T96, south of the M4 could get lucky!;)

This run is crazy! Big difference at such an early timeframe.
