Cold hunt - models and chat

Paul
Message added by Paul

Please ensure that the majority of your posts in this thread are model related - a theme of model discussion needs to run throughout.
Some off topic chat and reactions are ok, but please use other, more relevant threads for entirely off-topic chat (such as snow reports, met office forecasts and general chat/moans about the weather or this winter).

For more no banter and just model discussion please head to the new focused model thread - this is also a great place to post (or cross post) your longer model summaries or thoughts around the models.

Looks cold to me with copious chances for snow

It is cold and some have had a little snow which in many years people would have been grateful for.

It is just that this year there has been so much that has been pointing towards a properly cold and snowy spell late January into February with Northern blocking galore that what is on offer at the moment seems like scraps.

Hopefully things will look more promising again later today the 0z runs usually leave us grumpy to be fair.....

slightly less great than the nirvana runs of last night's 18z GFS, but let's wait to see what the GFS has to say today!

No beast from the east with minus 20 850’s and 6ft of snow on the ECM, but it’s looking cold &  there are plenty of snow chances, feeling like winter! Could be far worse...

Saw some snow falling yesterday and it’s currently minus 4c here, looking at 1c as the high today, cold ? up north...

Wasn’t it meant to be frosty this morning in the Home Counties ?

It is here in North Hampshire, along with a dusting.

I’m claiming a pound for every time I read this type of post

I'm claiming a pound for no other reason other than I need lots of money!

Next up is the GFS 6Z let's hope it produces something similar to last night's 18z and we'll all be smiling again.

A reasonable ECM op this morning's probably on the warm side of the ensemble envelope. Last night's end had some truly epic runs so plenty to be happy about going forward.  I see the wait for cold and snow is showing who has patience and who thinks you can order it off Amazon and have it just because you want it.

In all fairness we are in a colder spell right now.

Think this thread would be better being called "The hunt for 5ft of snow and the rainbow coloured unicorn".

wonderful post and so true I went to bed at 12 last night and reading posts in here you think we were going into an ice age and 7 hours later its all doom and gloom.

I personally think it's going to be even better that what the the ECM currently shows, considering the other models views on things

EC mean looks good again..

OP likely out of kilter, again.

EC mean looked to straddle along the op the whole way up North.

But from Day 8 onwards op mild outlier for mildland southwards.

Yer but you can’t keep having bad ops time after time , you’ve got to have a good op thrown out now and then . Think I’m just gonna look at the gfs 18z from last night for a cheer up

LITTLE MODELS:  Gosh that was so much fun winding up the humans about a potential snowmageddon.  Can we do it again? Please...please...please?

BIG MODELS: Well....ok then...but remember the rules! Always make it start at least 5 or 6 days away!

LITTLE MODELS.... yay!  Come on everybody...let's do this!

ICON.... Shall I start teasing with my 6z run first?

ECM.... Good idea little one. Then I'll come in at 12z and appear to back you up...

BIG MODELS   ..and guys...  don't forget to do again what we did last time.....send them to bed all excited...get them miserable in the mornings and then ramp it up again all through the day!  That was such fun!
