Cold hunt - models and chat

Paul
Message added by Paul

Please ensure that the majority of your posts in this thread are model related - a theme of model discussion needs to run throughout.
Some off topic chat and reactions are ok, but please use other, more relevant threads for entirely off-topic chat (such as snow reports, met office forecasts and general chat/moans about the weather or this winter).

For more no banter and just model discussion please head to the new focused model thread - this is also a great place to post (or cross post) your longer model summaries or thoughts around the models.

I'd agree with NW regarding the pesky PV lobe to North West being a pain and dominant feature.a lot of twoing and frowing without any real really wintry signal imo.very tedious now and lacking a true signal.slowly getting fed up for sure!!!

Positive vibes ecm soon!

May be completely wrong, but is that hints at an Easterly/Northeastetly?

Positive vibes!!! Think that ship sailed Xmas time.tbh I think there's more chance of me laying in bed eating pop corn with Beyonce watching swfc win the champions league than a sustained cold spell landing

That’s all we’ve been hearing about this winter, both here and elsewhere. Problem is the background signals do just that, stay in the background.

If there is going to be another go at an easterly forget looking out in FI the models will pick it up suddenly and within the reliable. The weather won’t play to the models it will suddenly happen and the signals will come into focus within the reliable.

Not impressed with the overnight runs myself, everything toned down wrt N'lies and FI potential for a big freeze gone.

In all fairness we are in a colder spell right now.

Think this thread would be better being called "The hunt for 5ft of snow and the rainbow coloured unicorn".

Or "the search for a single snowflake thread and a decent frost"

That Canadian PV wants nuking...

...

Lets see how EC mean looks it was really good last night..

But these dets are worrying...

No good having a great mean if the ops are constantly crap..

What will really jaffa cake me off is if that horrid Canadian PV vanishes in late march ..

GFS pub run last night was exceptional, GFS 00z less so. UKMO was very good, ECM less so. Some people putting all their hopes and dreams on every single run unfortunately and the emotional ups and downs are very unhealthy here's to hoping that all models agree so sustained deep cold ASAP before we all lose our sanity!

Meanwhile, the temperatures in Australia are exceeding 45°C. Of course, the only place on planet earth currently more heated is this thread...
