Cold hunt - models and chat

Paul
Message added by Paul

Please ensure that the majority of your posts in this thread are model related - a theme of model discussion needs to run throughout.
Some off topic chat and reactions are ok, but please use other, more relevant threads for entirely off-topic chat (such as snow reports, met office forecasts and general chat/moans about the weather or this winter).

For more no banter and just model discussion please head to the new focused model thread - this is also a great place to post (or cross post) your longer model summaries or thoughts around the models.

At least the EC46 isn't showing a west based scenario anymore - all good on that front.

We can still hunt for the next hit, can't we.

Does a plonky stop thinking about when he can have some vodka just because he's got a tinnie in his hand?

I’m looking out the window and it’s raining.

I’ll continue to hunt.

Haha. Some of us won't be seeing anything other than rain, perhaps hail/sleet. Continuing to pin my hopes on looking ahead unfortunately!

For those that are seeing snow and like it, enjoy.

The push of the Russian high westwards seems quite dramatic also

I have seen over the years a number of times over the years where the russian high was modelled to migrate westwards....only for to retreat before impacting these isles

Hmmm possible snow even for the south (from the Icon at least) (been showing for a while now)

Slack wind heavy PPN and marginal uppers.... Marginal but possible?

For most it still looks too marginal, but its a lot closer than it was on the 06z ICON for sure and I wouldn't rule out some very backedge stuff based on the parameters, especially for those on high ground.

I think its the way it hold up against the colder air from the north that generates the interest, filed under one to watch

Totally unexpected but we have snow in Fleet (North Hampshire).  Radar just showing rain. So I guess nice surprises happen too.

Impressed with the models, especially short range from even 4-5 days out they picked up a feature running through West to Central Southern England this afternoon, it was the GFS which was bullish for snow from it for here and it has delivered a few cm's.  So while we all search for snow, even at short range surprises can pop up!

Heavy wet 'large clump' snow here atm..

And as the deep cold gets polished off the models..the cold..and ever more snowy synops gain!!!

The higher resolution GFS brings a little shortwave south at 36 hrs , this brings an area of rain, sleet and snow .

This has just popped up and wasn’t on earlier runs because the low to the nw disrupts a bit more .
