Scotland/Alba Weather Discussion 2019

Recommended Posts

There were two lorries over yesterday near Torness which closed/restricted one section of A1 down to border and another lorry went over nearer Haddington, on the highly exposed Tyne bit, which is wobbly on a fine day. Then once police car arrived another lorry went over on top of it, people were okay.

Chill in the wind and feels bitter but still 4c so lively showers are big chunky raindrops. Certainly interesting weather that will make me gaze out the window at work.

Well that was surely a real crappy day yesterday! Winds weren't anything out of the ordinary, but the rain...! On Monday afternoon I emptied my manual rain gauge. Yesterday morning around 10am it was full to overflowing. So over 2 inches of rain fell in that space of time. I haven't checked it this morning by when I looked in the afternoon it was heading up to the 2 inch mark again! Calmer today, skies clearing but I don't think the rain is far away. Will try and get out during a dry spell to deliver Christmas cards around the village. Was stuck inside most of the day yesterday so the exercise will do me good!

Cairngorm mountain looks great. (From what I can make out ?)

IMBY plenty of low cloud currently so unable to see if the higher hills/mountains have a white Winter coat on! (Quite a few torrential downpours and hail showers during the early hours of this morning here)

Have a good day everyone.

Bright, 3C with SW winds continuing.

The house looks onto Cairn William which sits at 450m asl. No sign of any snowfall overnight.

Cloudy here with the heavy showers from yesterday evening still continuing this morning. The temperature for most of last night was just under 5c and this morning it got a bit colder down to 2.6c.

Stunning day so far, clear blue skies accompanied by a stiff SW wind ensuring that you don't venture out without the winter jacket on!  Current temperature 4.3c.

Temp is dropping fast and everything is freezing. Puddles have all frozen over in the last hour and wind has picked up again.  1.3 degrees but feels much colder. Anymore snow today could get interesting!

Had a decent shower not that long ago (OK mostly rain perhaps with a little wintry mix to it) but the cloud in the distance did look like a definite thunderstorm (didn't end up as that) was nice seeing in the other end bit of blue sky getting mothed by the shower we had

Wee walk up the local hill earlier. (98 meters)

Big time wintry showers - hail/sleet rattling off my face...joys of being a weather enthusiast! ?

Snow line is roughly 400 meters here on the lower hills.

Fantastic Winter's day! ?

It's going to be icy as anything here overnight but I can't see any of the showers making it through here.

The moonrise was gorgeous this afternoon, the phone pics don't do it justice. Next year's tattie field will apparently be on the road:

Looks like the councils across Scotland will be  having some conversations with farmers  as this appalling autumn continues. Local dairy farm emptied their  sand/ slurry pit last week and pulled half the field onto the road as the carts sunk in the fields and had to be towed out. What was worse that the slurry in the carts sloshed all over the roads leaving a very rank smell. Basically these industrial scaled units will have to invest in tractor mounted brushes with water tankers  after scaping the roads with a bucket if this sort of weather becomes the norm.

Had some wet snow about an hour ago after a very wet afternoon not sure we will see a frost but would like one to dry it up a bit. Currently 2c,windy and partly cloudy

Not an evening to be cycling and certainly not in shorts! That wind just about cut me in two ??

Fairly heavy sleety stuff on at home.
