Getting rather blowy outside, forecast is for 50mph gusts and heavy rain around midnight.  Yellow warnings for rain for parts of eastern Scotland tomorrow and Friday.

The wind certainly has got up and the ice/snow on the driveway and garden is rapidly dissappearing. Saw -5C on the car thermometer in Alford this morning and it was -4C most of the way to Alford. Was 2C most of the way home.

The past few days were lovely in their own right, frosty and lots of frozen icy surfaces and snow remnants alongside thick freezing fog, very seasonal. Pretty precarious walking conditions in parts of the city but very much the reality of winter. Going by that thread you'd think there was nothing to enjoy about the weather just because we're not in the grips of a big freeze.

Wind was pretty rowdy at midnight, rain lashing off the windows kept me awake.

A much milder start of late at 7C, yesterday kicked off with  -4C. Further heavy rain expected tonight which could lead to further snowfall for the ski resorts. Starting to look good up there!

Glenshee yesterday:

A cloudy, dull and rainy start to the day with the temperature just under 8c. A very windy night for those in the Western Isles last night Tiree got 70mph, South Uist 75mph and Barra 82mph and no wind warning was given for out there.

Been a bit of thawing last night unfortunately. MWIS has tonights precipitation as rain away from the munroes. Hopefully they are wrong as this week has given a potential good base to all the areas with a bit freeze and thaw. Here wet at 7C this morning though some hints of brightness in the distance now..

That's disappointing given Glenshee had four runs open yesterday, I was planning a snowboarding trip up there tomorrow.

The ski resorts desperately need a good season.

Foggy at road level just now at 5C so not looking good. Tomorrow begins to turn more wintry and any precipitation from tomorrow evening onwards should be snow. Hoping that there is not too much melting tonight so that the base freezes.

Met office forecast looks grim. 9 hours of heavy rain tonight into tomorrow coupled with strong winds. That will shred the snowpack quickly.

Snow's all gone in braemar, and even the tops of the hills are bare. Hard to believe we were ploughing on Sunday. 6.6c with a bit of sunshine this afternoon.

If Yr.no forecast is correct then it looks like I'll be seeing a White Xmas, pity I've got to drive all the way to Austria to get it though. Currently forecast to turn from rain to snow in Schladming (valley level) on Tuesday evening and continue at least through to Sat, with 15cm or so on Xmas day itself. Should be turning cold enough for snow at higher altitude Sat/Sun, so a nice freshen up for us arriving Mon (roads and weather permitting).

Back here and it's currently mild(ish) and raining, although stayed dry most of the day.

UPDATE: Just as I posted the forecast updated to the latest ECM run and all of the precipitation has dissappeared after Tuesday. Bright, cold and calm now, which is good skiing weather I suppose. It'll probably change again next run anyway, hopefully not to mild with gales.

What a horrible wet night its turned out, the roads are awash again...a few dry days would be most welcome just to give us a bit of a break from all this rain.

Fingers crossed the Christmas week will be more seasonal.

A cloudy day here and dull at least it stayed mostly dry meanwhile the snow has now melted away on the hills after being around for nearly a week. The temperature has been between 6c and 8c.

@CatchMyDrift

We could have waved to each other in passing as I was in that general area yesterday, late morning, on a tootling about way home from a short break on the west coast. Cut east off the A9 at Dunkeld.

Snow has disappeared from all but the higher peaks around Arrochar where it was very patchy. The amount of standing water on the Loch Lomond road was rather hazardous.

Today, sunny at present but feeling quite cold, 4C and a gentle breeze from the SW. Unfortunately, rain is forecast for later.

A glorious morning here, blue sky sunshine very pleasant indeed, its all doom and gloom in the nut house this morning after last nights joy from the pub run. Decembers finished no snaw at Christmas. i bet today will be the day that the "lack of balloon data" issue will get brought up again. i still think we will get at least one or maybe two big snaw events before spring comes.

Currently just entering the lawless border areas to the south of Hamilton on out long drive to Austria. Set off at 8:30 with a stop in Asda Cumbernauld car park to exchange presents and pleasantries with my folks. Weather dry apart from one brief shower at Stirling, variable amounts of cloud, some places very little, some pretty much full cover. Temps of between 2 & 6C.
