The archive only seems to go back to 2012.

There are archives from further back but I am not sure they cover the time periods you quoted.

I bet the 2012/13 Scotland winter thread would be a good read especially toward the end and March 2013.

More Italian skies today before the "big storm" Lorenzo scrapes the very far west of Scotland and brings most of us 10mm of rain and a fart of wind:

October 1st Signing on for Winter 2019/20 yesterday fitted car with new winter tyres,  now traditionally that puts the botchach on a cold winter.

But today had to come out scrape the first frost of the winter off the windows of the car, I think this year is going to be the one !

@West Highland Storm I remember you last October saying Winter was going to be a bramer...can’t believe you are cursing us again by saying you think this year is the one. ??

All joking aside...let’s hope you are right! ⛄

Another stunning Autumn day here - grass frost up the local hill. (98 metres)

Lorenzo arrives tomorrow night giving me 40mph gusts into Friday morning which should blow some leaves about...standard Autumn weather here. (Different story for coastal areas of Ireland and Northern Ireland with 80mph gusts!)

Cairngorm mountain looks a bit chilly currently.

This is a bit of a horror show at first glance:

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/CFSv2/htmls/euT2me3Mon.html

February IS a horror show but the other months might not turn out too bad if they are 0.5C to 1C above average (also depending on what time period they are compared to).

To put it in perspective here are the anomalies from last year's disaster of a winter:

547564326_Screenshot_20191002-171950_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.3369dd3e4aec28330472aea18f0411f8.jpg1870276772_Screenshot_20191002-171908_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.62940a608d4cb856e1be6eef2c6a2e41.jpg1778422061_Screenshot_20191002-171827_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.d775c2b44499be320725517f3a27d6f3.jpg2131257908_Screenshot_20191002-171758_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.27eb74db7e992c2f6427bf93e342a741.jpg

So it's bad but could be a lot worse.

Yeah I'd probs be more worried if they showed all winter at 3C below average, was just punting up some models lol

could you imagine it 3c below average all winter... the MOD thread would be some place to be. would still be some complaining.

Something that I've noticed a bit different this year is the amount of geese that are flying over the house in the last few days seems to be a hell of a lot of them !

Instead of flying south seems to be more of an east/south east direction, they're heading in.

First frost here this morning ...........the air is noticeably now much colder and has been the past couple of mornings

Hopefully a much better winter than last year which was disappointing....very snowless compared to 2017/18

I was lucky enought to witness this lift-off at Montrose Basin not long after sunrise this morning. The noise was ear-splitting.There are around 50,000 there at present and numbers will build over the next couple of weeks or so before the majority disperse to The Wash and Morecambe Bay.

Pink-footed Geese

It was bright enough but darn cold, 6C and a brisk chilly breeze.

A clear starry night this evening, and so I am expecting another chilly one.
