Grand shout by @Kirkcaldy Weather previously, maybe yesterday?

Thanks, although it is only really the euro 4 that takes the precip into that area so still a low risk from my POV, sidenote the wrf is working again and also the MO warning is now an ice warning although snow still in wording.

After the deluge over Thursday and Friday, a more autumnal look for the local hills.

Thursday and Friday next week looks very wet.

Yeah, they made a mistake and changed it 5mins later. Not surprised as it never mentioned the depth of snowfalls which they normally would for a snow warning.

Could have been a decent snow event for quite a few of us, 4.4 C / DP 2.9 C and raining here

Most models are fairly poor at forecasting precip accurately but the Euro4 is usually the least worst. I mostly use the Euro4 for my weather page, the others are not the best and the GFS is useless for short range precip forecasts.

TBH I rarely use the euro4 and as I mentioned my go to is the wrf and I usually try and average out what the majority of the short range models are showing and try to come to a conclusion although a setup like today's is not the easiest :oldlaugh: comparison of those 2 models for 1pm and I would say both done a good job especially up here in Scotland with the wrf possibly closer to the mark with exact positioning of precip.

It would be interesting to compare them all hour by hour, I've never checked properly just alwats get the feels for the Euro4 being the least inaccurate.

It is the wrf 2km which is the best of the wrf models for short range as I have added in my last post

I added that in for comparison, similar to the Euro4 too. I'll look at them later and see what's what as it would be good to know what is accurate and what isn't

One thing I have noticed with the wrf 2km is that sometimes the timing can be a bit off, not sure if it was more to do with the thunderstorms in the summer sometimes it would have it say 4pm for example but in reality it was 2pm so when I use it I try and compare the timings to the other short range models and again try and average them all out to find an accurate start / end time

Very wet and windy at the moment. The high wind speeds have probably increased the mixing of warmer air coming off the sea and reduced snow chances for here. Bit of a shame as the rain and sleet has been heavy here and more off than on for the last 24hours - we could've had a good dumping of snow if it was just slightly colder!

It lasted only a few minutes a few white flakes fell this afternoon blink and you’d have missed them.

Still good to see though I hope I’am wrong but I’ve a feeling this will be all I’ll see this side of the year.

Tomorrow night looks interesting again, as some fronts move up from the Irish sea / NW England, one issue looks to be the 850 temps although an area of around -4/5 ahead of the precip lessening to around -2 with the arrival however temperatures and dew points look more favourable. Here is a risk area with 2 zones - the zone in the SW is for thunder, hail, sleet and an outside chance of snow but the other zone looks like having a better chance of snow. Likely to be some positional changes before we get to tomorrow night so might need an update but will monitor the models through tomorrow. image.thumb.png.dd64ea7f9c3e448cd54e79a4ac83d780.png 20191214.1753.PPVG89.png

Morning all

Fantastic ECM this morning for the 24th and 25th if you like festive weather at Christmas! Cold and frosty with a risk of snow showers for a few.

Just for fun at this range - really hope it is correct!
