Wild here, awning seems to be holding and no drips from the resealed rooflight snows all gone from the tips of the hills round braemar. Glad we got all the caravans resited yesterday.. not a day to be outside.

A cloudy wet and windy morning here so far our top gust was 50mph at 7.44am although so far the wind doesn't appear to be as bad as Sunday's storm. The temperature has been steadily rising since midnight which was 5.6c then and now just hit 10c after 11.30am.

Heavy snow for Braemar tomorrow according to the Met Office.

Winds over here are strengthening, temperature currently 10C.

North Lanarkshire really needs a closer/lower weather station. Not sure exactly where this one is but it's a good few miles from Motherwell and it must be higher too.Max gusts in the last couple of hours have barely gone above 40 mph here...

It's from the Met Office station in Drumalbin which appears to be a bit away from Motherwell. The actual closest Met Office station to you is in Salsburgh I'm not really sure why the Met Office website doesn't show it instead anyway it reported a top gust of 55mph at 10am and again at 11am it can be viewed here

A graphical and tabular preparation of weather observations of last week by the WMO weather station from Salsburgh, United Kingdom (99024). It is updated hourly.

Even that one is a fair bit away (7 miles) and between Airdrie and Shots so it'll be higher than Motherwell/Wishaw and other the other low lying parts of NL.

Minging December temperatures have returned, currently 12.2 C / DP 9.8 C here thankfully temporary before the colder air and possible snow showers move in. WRF still not working so looks like a bit of a guessing game for the upcoming wintry potential but I think a bit of everything will be on offer rain/sleet/snow/hail and possibly thunder too. Although having a look around the other short range models they seem to keep the majority of the showers in the W / NW with little making it across further east although the euro 4 holding firm as @CatchMyDrift posted earlier, usually when you see one model out on its own it ends up being somewhere between that and the others so will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Look at the squall line on the cold front running roughly N-S at the west side of Scotland. It should be pretty wild for about 20 mins when this crosses west to east:

just passed overhead - it was wild.  Still blawn a hoolie but not as intense.

Fairly standard winter fayre so far in NE Fife, winds yet to reach gale force at Leuchars. Gloomy, mild and windy with mostly light rain on and off.

As Catch says the squall line looks like a lively affair!

Passed over me a short while ago wind picked up with a gust of 48mph and the rain very heavy and since it passed the temperature has gone from 10.5c to 8.6c in the space of 25 minutes.

Think it passed here about 30 minutes ago, would be surprised if the highest wind gust here didn't occur during that 10 minutes spell, seemed like maybe the mid 50s.

Still no rain here, and the wind has dropped off now, is that it? i thought we was meant to be having a storm? have worked out that certain parts of this house are colder depending on the direction of the wind. and then when the wind changes so do the cold rooms.

How was Sunday's storm a 'named' storm that no-one noticed, where as it's a working day today with significant weather disruption the storm has no name?

Roads are closed and trains and ferries cancelled as heavy rain and strong winds batter Scotland.

Really not understanding this so-called naming convention now.

Yes, daughter was caught up in the consequential traffic diversions and chaos this morning on way to work.

Waiting for the squall to pass over shortly (20mins or so), although the line seems to be somewhat fractured to the south west of here.

3 hours ago the Met office tweeted that Storm Brendan, despite media reports, was not official. Instead they were warning of high wind and rain.

Bizarre.

The squall line is impressive on the radar....

image.thumb.png.ccfc1ba6c118d7d7f9c54212fd654bc9.png

it's just passed through here, two minutes or so of intense semi-horizontal rain and gusty winds - though not as gusty as earlier this morning.

Cloudy day, mild with a max of 10.7c and rain off and on since mid afternoon.

Yes it is quite bizarre.
As @Sceptical mentioned this was the tweet they put out.

For my location Saturday night/Sunday morning was much worse than today due to the different wind direction. (Still had gales today though)

They should either scrap the storm naming system or just name every severe wind event in Scotland...Hurricane Bawbag for comedy value.

Looking forward to a chilly rest of week now with potential snowfall for many of us.
First mention of lower ground on the short term regional forecast for Strathclyde...we are slowly getting there!  (Pretty sure it reads the same for all other regions)

Not a bad outlook at all - eventful night ahead also.

Do they not only name storms if there's an amber warning somewhere in the UK or Ireland? Personally i don't think it was worth an amber warning where i am, it barely even reached severe gale force.

From the Met Office:

A storm will be named when it has the potential to cause an amber or red warning. Other weather types will also be considered, specifically rain if its impact could lead to flooding as advised by the Environment Agency, SEPA and Natural Resources Wales flood warnings.

I'm thinking we might see snow gates closing tonight or tomorrow. The forecast weather looks suspiciously like blizzard conditions for the higher routes.

Glenshee windchill temps tonight/tomorrow-12C with heavy snow.

Cairngorm windchill temps -17c with heavy snow.
