Yep, start working as the stove heats up, due to electricity generated by the temperature difference across a pad separating the two halves of the fan. Make some difference but hard to quantify as I can feel the radiated heat from the stove more than any breeze from the fans.

Once the stove has been on for a bit it gets that warm in the lounge we really HAVE to open the doors to the hall and kitchen.

We have one too, have to say its effect is negligible.  stove1.thumb.jpg.7784fff68b47425ac805cfa0c40fc649.jpg

Not quite an ice day in Fortrose, but pretty close at 1C max.

Careful you don't run out of wood HC with such a wee pile next to your fire

Quite @damianslaw

I think I'm on my 10th significant air frost.

You prompted me to think how much wood has been burnt in there - has to be getting on for 200 tons since 2006. In that time we would have burnt god knows how much oil, but the stove is old tech now and very inefficient.  A new log boiler would need only half the wood to produce the same heat.

200 wow, an average 23m high tree would be 14tonnes so I guess you have burnt about 14 full sized trees....

Time to plant some trees

Missed the beautiful weather yesterday as was hectically busy with the move to Pittenweem. All done now though so I’ll be reporting from the East Neuk once more!

-3c the reading at Leuchars currently. Looks like Tulloch Bridge may have been the cold spot overnight with a low of -10c!

Another bright cold day in prospect, not bad for the first day of winter. Not as cold as yesterday, currently-4C as the sun rises.

Next week mixed, mostly mild until the end of the week.

This time yesterday the temp was -3.7c, today it is a sub-tropical 4.6c and clouding over. Temp never rose above freezing at home yesterday but reached the dizzy heights of 2c in the sunshine at Broadford. Making the most of the calm day as I've seen the forecast for the rest of the week. Back to horizontal sleet and rain then. Oh, how I've missed it! ( Not! )  It's been a very dry November but I think December will be putting paid to that!

A second November ice day (very unusual) yesterday after the cauldest night of the winter at -7.7°C (max of -1.7°C).

Rinse and repeat last night: min of -6.5°C. Happy Meteorological Winter, Kilters!

Next week to ten days looking a bit more mixed (mildish muck) and then look to the north-west I reckon...

Time to plant some trees

We have planted fruit trees in the garden...

But I've worked on many woodland planting (not conifer plantations, except to get rid of) and regen schemes over the years so no guilt trip here

The frost is lifting already this morning.

A very enjoyable few hours spent on the hills. The recent cold temperatures has left the ground very firm which afforded the opportunity to access the higher local hills - around 1200 feet asl.

First picture is the view south looking towards royal deeside. Significant windchill at the top.

Second picture is the view looking onto the eastern Cairngorms.

Final picture, is the view looking onto the Cabrach.

Temperatures at 12.30pm when I got back to the car was -3C.

A remarkable number of frosts at Prestwick Airport so far for our coastal location. This morning was the 16th frost. This beats the weatheronline.co.uk record going back to 1996 (2nd place was 2010 at 12 frosts before 1 December). I suspect 1993 may have beaten it. 2010/11 of course went on to be a remarkably cold winter at least for the first half (tho not very snowy here). February 1994 had decent snow here, the only time my dad ever built a snowman in our garden .
