Well this morning's forecast for Lothian/Borders is a bust. Persistent and widespread rain and at 1.5C on the hills, disappointing it is isn't a further six weeks into the season....

Took advantage if the good weather to take a wee run up through Glenalmond to Buchanty Spout then over to Aberfeldy via the Sma' Glen and back to Dundee via Dunkeld and Coupar Angus avoiding the A9 roadworks.
Unfortunately there was a bit more cloud in the Highlands with a light shower or two so the light wasn't great for the tree colours.
Snow remains on the Eastern slopes of Glenlyon but has melted off the South side of Schiehallion. Cold feeling with ice still on some puddles at 2pm near Aberfeldy.
Quite a bit of heather burning going on with one quite large fire just North of Kinloch. As we approached Aberfeldy the fire engine was heading South at speed with blues on.
I used to work at the heather burning in later years at school but always in Spring in the Easter hols.

Up checking cows.   First air frost of the autumn after at least 4 ground frosts so far this month at -0.5c. Yes burning was always a late winter/ early spring operation but autumn burning is now common on the hills round here now. Only started in the last three years or so.

Seventh air frost at -2.4C in the garden and -4 in the car through Blyth Bridge.

Thickest fog I've seen for quite a long time.

Sunny intervals with some cloud around though dry so far here. Temp crept up to 7C.

Liked this photo this morning courtesy of Archie in Kenmore of Lawers poking through above the mist on Loch Tay.

edit. Spoke too soon about it being dry. Popped out to the shops to pick up a package and the rain started. Hopefully just a shower though.

Just to show the difference for snow holding between South and North facing slopes even with the shorter days. Here is the North side of Schiehallion from yesterday as well as one from the South.

A beautiful run up from Stirling yesterday, blue sky and sunshine all the way and Auld Scotia looking amazing. Got a wee bit nippy last night, temp got down to -2.1c, currently at 4.4c. Been another cracking day, long may it continue! ( But I know it won't! )

Another lovely day here tomorrow then dross for Friday and Saturday before a return to sunshine and chilly nights for the new week - can’t complain.

Have a good night!

Frosty morning here as well so far this week, although Tuesday started off at 3C here up the hill, but below freezing lower down in Alford. Had to scrape the car windscreen Monday and this morning.

First day of frost lying in north facing shaded areas all day a real indicator of winter coming..Turned off most of outside water troughs today as cows and calves will soon be in so just need one left on in the field they are in .Quite a bit of ice on the puddles this morning.Currently clear and 2c

7th air frost of the month and currently -1.0°C. Still no clearer what it means for the forthcoming winter, but it's been great to have some settled and more seasonal weather in the run-up to Hallowe'en, rather than the mild muck and dross of some previous years. Happy Hallowe'en, Kilters.

Was nice here earlier but changing now. Getting breezy and sky gone from blue to white - usually means weather going downhill.
