Hey all

Nice to see the hunt for potential cold underway!  I'm just hoping that when I go to London next week it isn't to wet and horrible - been a fairly decent summer by Scottish standards here, but has turned a bit wet during October... here's hoping I get a good fix of the white stuff this year, as I reckon I'm overdue

Some really heavy showers rattling thru here today, 19 sleeps until the Big Snaw family return to snaw zone in Aberdeenshire. looking forward to the coming winter, i do hope it is as good as the last one when we lived up that way and TBFTE battered us for 5 days straight. Bring the snaw.

Afternoon all!

Nothing much to add except...everyday this week...sunshine and showers...next few days...sunshine and showers...next week sunshine and showers.?️

It does make for a nice cloudscape through the window in black and white.

So, in other words, when we see/get a cold spell we should stay all Secret Squirrel about it?

A bright fresh morning, 9C, and the wind has abated. The east has certainly managed to dodge the recent rain.

This French Hen lingered for a spot of autumnal sunbathing on the barn roof.

I was enjoying it but after a week it’s now becoming very tedious! Tuesday looks a dry day at least!  (Can’t believe I am getting excited about a dry day)

Roll on Winter or Summer!

Morning all

Thought I was on for a surprise bit of thunder and lighting yesterday afternoon - kicked off briefly to my North West but when it all arrived here it was just torrential rain.

Can someone post a picture of the ground frost? Forgot what it looks like on low ground!

Would not mind being in Northern Sweden or the South West of France currently - either would be lovely!

Any of you guys and girls that are Rural heard of a company called Northsat? seem to have good reviews online. and any of you use another provider? says 20mbps via satellite broadband. £99 per month unlimited. bit more than BT but 1mbps from BT so im kind of thinking it could be worth it. EE offering 500gb per month on mobile wifi for £50 per month.

Personally satellite broadband would be the option of last resort for me due to the latency (pings upwards of 800ms compared to around 20ms for adsl broadband). You can do better than £50/mth for 500Gb, especially if you buy your own unlocked mobile router and antenna (if needed), which would be around £200. Three also do better home broadband deals, including the router, than EE. I only get a 3G signal from them though (still faster than my BT line).

Unlimited data plans allow you to download as much as you like, with no download...

Until you move in though it's going to be difficult to know what mobile network, if any, is best. Thier coverage checkers should be taken with a pinch of salt. If you have an unlocked phone, grab a free sim from each of the main networks and check what you get once you've moved in. That's if the kids won't lynch you if they don't have "WiFi" the second they enter the house.

SEPA are asking again for Rainfall observers, anywhere in Scotland but particularly the Highlands.

ENVSCOT-CSPORTAL.ORG.UK

There are two levels, one as a more casual (WoW type) observer or

Becoming a Met office registered A-standard observer

If you are able to observe rainfall on a daily basis at 9am GMT (10am in British summer time) and have a secure garden or plot of land that is not overshadowed by trees or structures, you may meet the criteria of a A-standard observer and your data can contribute to the national rainfall archive.

Enquiries can be emailed to SEPA at advice@sepa.org.uk using the subject title ‘Public Rainfall Observing’. If your site meets the necessary criteria, SEPA will supply you with a UK standard Mark 2 raingauge, a glass measure, a supply of rainfall cards and instructions.

@Ravelin thanks for the advice, getting some great advice from a local person who already does it via a router brought from Amazon and use an EE sim only deal £34 a month with unlimited data.. looks like it could be a good option, spoken to landlord who lives next door and he has great 4G coverage on his mobile.

A Winter-esque spell in October? Latest GFS is having a laugh here! (From 300+ hours most of us would see some snow - cherry picked snow chart below for my location. )

Cold Halloween as well!

If only it became reality - wouldn’t mind a wee change from the current weather here in the West.

Have a good day!
