Fabulous  dry sunny warm day here too .After a morning at paperwork got mower outf or first cut of domestic grasses. The grass was like steel wool to cut even with newly sharpened blades so drought is not far away. but at least it was so dry there were no chokes. Finished the day off by sowing veg in garden in anticipation of rain /sleet/snow at the end of the week.Nice weed free seedbeds after dutch hoeing in such conditions.for the last two weeks.

Moor fire broke out again this afternoon so any precipitation  from the sky this week will be welcome. Heard today that some  ofthe farms nearest it have dug wide ditches and created vegetation free gaps to try and protect their fields if it threatens them again.

Outside chance of some light rain tomorrow courtesy of that leading front 20190429.2216.PPVE89.png better chance of some heavy slow moving showers on Tuesday with light winds could give quite a bit of rain wherever catches them, then the cooler / colder air later in the week with areas like yours in with a chance of seeing some wintryness in the precip, could be some good cloudscapes around during this week with the heavy showers. 48-779UK.GIF?29-18 96-779UK.GIF?30-18  102-526UK.GIF?30-18 102-7UK.GIF?30-18 nmmuk-1-50-0.png?29-20

Well it was a rather cool, dreich day on Saturday, perfect for a family day out shopping, cinema, meal etc in Aberdeen. Rain really welcome for the garden though.

Sunday in contrast was rather pleasant, as was yesterday, and probably today if the forecast is right. We're off to Blair Atholl in the motorhome on Friday afternoon to meet up withy folks in thier caravan. Was hoping for some more warmth, but thinking of putting the snow chains back in instead.

:( back to winter everyone. 21 members going for snow in Edinburgh on Friday.

More cold to follow, then low pressures pushing in from the west.

CFS forecasts have backtracked with often above average precipitation for Scotland during may.

Just when I confirmed my Edinburgh golf match for Friday afternoon thinking cold but at least it would be dry.

Looks like Thursday will be the day to usher in the colder air behind a cold front 20190430.1721.PPVI89.png  20190430.1754.PPVJ89.png 20190430.1754.PPVK89.png  some troughs in the colder flow could help intensify showers but I still think the majority of showers and any snow will be mainly across north and northeast coasts and inland probably over cairngorms etc as for further south like Dundee, Fife, Edinburgh etc I wouldn't be surprised to see some hail showers at times and it will probably feel pretty raw with a strong northerly wind anim_bvh3.thumb.gif.8b084da1a72e89ad6cf530291878768f.gif

Again, don't look at the models if you're looking for anything warm.

Rain today and tomorrow, then moves in the Arctic air, followed by Atlantic depressions. The next 10 days are going to have mainly below average temperatures and very wet weather, after a brief dry (but cold) spell this weekend.

CFS monthly showing above average precipitation for may over the UK again

Don't particularly mind a bit of wetter than average as the garden could do with a good soaking. I'd prefer mild to warm wet weather rather than what seems to be lining up. Yr.no forecast for here has maxes of no more than 8c right out to the end of the forecast i.e. for the next 10 days. That's just dismal for May.

Day started nice enough with a bit of hazy sunshine, light winds and a max temperature of 15.5c.

Downhill from mid-afternoon onwards with some torrential rain at teatime followed by persistant light to moderate rain this evening, current temperature 8c.

I knew I shouldn't have used the sprinkler yesterday...

I did the same yesterday as the garden was parched. Rain here too this evening but it is much needed for the ground. Better that it is soaking in over a period than sharp downpours which will just run off.

Some nice light drizzly rain here too this morning.which has since cleared leaving a few showers over the Firth. Has become a lot colder though with it now 5c in the middle of the day.

Winter is returning  though as  was on the A96  at midday and they were pre salting so must be expecting a reasonable frost tonight. Will shift cattle to a more sheltered field This evening night and give them some of the last neeps. Nothing unusual in this weather at this time of year

Cloudy and showery here so far today but it should clear later. 10.3C

The unsettled weather next week now looking most likely to be South of the border so drier but cool up here maybe though pleasant in any sunshine.

Some sporadic rain in the morning clearing to patchy cloud with limited sunshine in the afternoon/this evening.

Big drop in temperature over the day, down to 6c now and feeling downright cold out there.

If the Met Office automated forecast is to believed, no chance of any double-digit temperatures for at least a week - welcome to March but with added daylight :nea:

Really cold here this evening too but at least the air  is clean and visibility is improving. The first  small wintry looking showers are appearing to the north across the Firth. Really like this time of year if we get an arctic outbreak as with the strong spring light  and the clean air the clouds can have some very vivid colours. The rain we had this morning has all but diappeared.Currently 5c

coldest of the air should be arriving throughout the night and the -5 / -6 850 hPa  temps could hang about for quite a while and with low pressures trying to move in from the atlantic I wouldn't be surprised for some battleground type snow mainly for more northern areas like yourself and the higher ground but still something noteworthy especially for May, get the snaw shovels oot! :oldlaugh: ?️ DampEachBinturong-small.gif

anim_udu3.gif anim_zve7.gif  and still some nicely positioned troughs incoming with the colder air so definitely a chance of showers intensifying wherever the trough(s) move over 20190502.1622.PPVE89.png 20190502.1644.PPVG89.png

Brought the potted tomatoes in as it's down to only 5.8°C already. A few nights in the window of the front bedroom will keep them warm.

A good deal of sunshine and a cool-ish feeling temp of 13C today on a visit to Mull, with one brief rain shower later in the afternoon.

The colour of the sea in the changing light was beautiful against the interesting pink granite rocks of Fionnphort.

The dot on the rock is actually a sea eagle.

Where did Spring go? Got a friend heading to Wick later this morning, what's it like Pitlochery north?

Think it should be fine with just coastal and hill  wintry showers. If all main routes are like the A96 yesterday at midday (must have had lots of advanced warning) yesterday they will have been pre salted.  Going up A9 to Dornoch for retirement celebration this evening .Fortunately because of being busy on farm still have winter tyres on but they will come off next week.
