Could do with some of that rain here as well - there was a small gorse fire early this morning in the local estate which required the fire brigade.

Day started murky but the cloud soon burnt off leaving a nice hazy sunny morning. Come midday the SE wind picked up and Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ returned once more.

Max of 14c in the morning then a chilly 10c for most of the afternoon; winds now light.

Going to be an anxious night for you NL. Sending you wet & soggy vibes to discourage that fire!!

Its the sheer speed of movement  of the fire that is so impressive. Actually the farm and  steading  are surrounded by  fairly bare or green fields so really

not to close to any vulnerable woodland.which borders most of the fields

Thursday afternoon-evening is going to bring plenty of rain in on a SE current. Same on Friday. So that should put an end to the wild fires.

High pressure could temporarily return over the weekend, bringing temperatures back up, although nowhere near as warm as it has been the past few days.

The area of low pressure could either sink south bringing back the nice weather to Scotland, or it could move east keeping temperatures low and often showery weather.

There's about 50/50 chance of either way, but should the high pressure return we could be seeing high temperatures again (not as high, but still very mild), up to 18-20C in inland areas as the low pressure over Spain helps pull up warmer air over us.

Seasonal tendencies still pointing towards anticyclonic blocking over the UK for Mayhp.thumb.png.d6303db763a044fefcf01829ff3de1fd.pnglp.thumb.png.dbc9f4a65f9e9a1e0e004c228f870693.pngblocking.thumb.png.ae635182a1c906d3ec32cfaef662ef1d.pngmay_850.thumb.png.5f217fe972c4c6b0fb03aed30affc6dd.png

In any case, I can't see any flat charts on the runs, so even if the next low pressure does move east instead of sinking south, there are still plenty of opportunities for great weather as we head into may.

Back to reality today with a max of 11.2C and a cool breeze off the North Sea. April can of course be a very variable month. Just two years ago today (24th to 25th) there was quite widespread snow in Scotland. Even here near the coast there was a covering in the evening and again the following morning from snow showers in a brisk Northerly.

Fire service have just said the Knockando fire is one of the largest the UK has seen for years. Will be on site for a few more days.  Two helicopters now deployed to douse flames in inaccessible areas.

A bit of good news Forres firefighters went into local Tesco to fill up with drinks for colleagues and Tesco  donated the trolley load in recognition of their efforts.

Fire engines have been coming from as far away as Balintore to provide relief crews.

No sign yet of forecast rain for today and the rain has been downgraded to very little in the next few days for our area.Local dairy farm now into fifth field of grass cutting to  feed immediately to housed cows with almost a month before proper silage season as last years stocks were exhausted. Still signs of impending drought as water tables in this area are very low.We too just got the  beef cows and calves out in time to grass as we were down to the last wrapped silage bale. Possibly no relief for firefighters.

Hopefully at least some rain for you at some point tomorrow to help a little with those fires anim_jds6.thumb.gif.31c571ea315349bb14122fc15199c234.gif  anim_ltj6.thumb.gif.c2e50cb2afa37ca0948a3316ced12f5b.gif arpegeuk-1-31-0.thumb.png.e8404c296738d7fc9d932d398117cdcf.png hirlamuk-1-12-0.thumb.png.df786d8363892a053568447f37b51c36.png  anim_hte7.thumb.gif.8a280c18e52e7bc4f553f66a7e8b09c8.gif fmiuk-1-20-0.thumb.png.b4c04be0bbbb5e3d546028eb0d7cbf80.png fmiuk-1-34-0.thumb.png.8829a0604522bcf0bcfa91ff81bf56a8.png anim_dys1.thumb.gif.8b66b0ab0e019367a01b0717c52d3055.gif

Thick clouds and showers moving now into the Lothians. This morning felt a lot warmer than of late, with bright sunshine and light winds. The eastern winds on Tuesday and Wednesday had felt positively cold.

Temperatures should start to climb back up on Sunday and more so on Monday, next week should be feeling quite mild with light winds.

been raining here for a few hours now looks like it should be reaching you soon although maybe not too heavy, also a chance of some thundery showers for the west with a heavy cell near Inveraray and a thundery band of rain moving into the south / sw of Scotland ATM anim_atw2.thumb.gif.d3824e9143cea5a15e6b00641d2d3e12.gif anim_gow4.thumb.gif.5bd599d3b4cf7e7f93e0712f94de30bf.gif   some nice looking hail cores in those showers out west IMG_E1170.thumb.JPG.c7619a9ed816522077b5d6e5954db3cc.JPG

Very heavy stuff along the clyde coast by the looks.

Some rain heading towards the Glasgow area from the SE just now - we actually could do with it.

Quite a few fires around not being reported widely by the media. Here it has been raining for the last two hours so hopefully any local fires will be out by now.

Any local knowledge forecasts for the Edinburgh area tomorrow? I am due to play my first round of golf for the year  tomorrow in Edinburgh but at my age I am very much a fair weather golfer only so will gladly give it a miss if there is rain about.

Looks like an early bunch of showers before a dry slot followed by more showers which could be heavier and possibly thundery anim_dgb7.thumb.gif.80cd510f0b928f05daaf12c185f4507e.gif anim_nor1.thumb.gif.a520923e8965a969a3a63bfcce614e1a.gif  anim_lzr2.thumb.gif.07d6f8dc9a6258edc63f8ef17cb5f6cf.gif temperatures might be a little bit higher than today with the wind being less from the east a more toward the south / sw nmm_uk1-0-25-0.thumb.png.325f342cf4098b1786399cbf45491b63.png looks like a trough brings the early showers then the front bringing the main lot later on 20190425.1643.PPVE89.png

Look quite wet in Edinburgh tomorrow, same Saturday.

Models are so uncertain at the moment, even in the mid-range. Now looking like the high pressure could leave us much sooner than expected. No doubt they will change again

Golf postponed until next Friday so we can now expect a sunny afternoon in Edinburgh

Edit. Early rain here has now cleared to sunshine though there are showers/rain expected later this afternoon.
