I appear to be located on the southern edge of a lingering front and so grey skies and steady cold drizzle here for the time being.

Yearning for a spell of settled mild weather when I can cast off the winter woollies/blues.

pics of the gust front just as it was moving in, precip turned quite wintry at its heaviest with hail/sleet accompanied with further deep rumbles of thunder IMG_1156.thumb.JPG.fde652f50476f3aa5b619fc9bf84fcf2.JPGIMG_1157.thumb.JPG.c8f4bd5223b4beb4024a7ad6241fdeb3.JPGIMG_1158.thumb.JPG.c43095b74c8f6c1b6c8a3ed38ef76eb1.JPGIMG_1159.thumb.JPG.50e37f07ebe420d157f7267fe08b6699.JPGIMG_1160.thumb.JPG.72c42cb29eaf06fe27ffbe941b420d84.JPGIMG_1161.thumb.JPG.b4d3d268aeda599eaaacc38f9176ce3d.JPG

This afternoon the morning dank weather broke and there were some sunny glimpses - resulting in:

^ I tried to edit the above regarding the rise in temperature over the afternoon, but edits seemed inaccessible  and the original upload remains visible.

If you want to post again C I can delete the two above?

Snowy start at 6.30am then tremendous hail in north Edinburgh around midday. The archetypal April disturbed day.

No matter, shuggee. It just seemed the edit function was "frozen" for a while.

@Benvironment just noticed you are down the road from there! Jammy git!

Not so much down the road as over the hill  We didn't get quite as much as they did at Glenmore but up on Creag Bhalg, behind Mar Lodge, it was approaching 1ft and the pines certainly looked fully-laden.

We're at just over 300m here and it was still quite wet snow tbh, but it certainly looked the part as it blew about in that wind!

I nipped up Creag Bhalg after work and it was much deeper up there.

Snowing on the Austrian Alps too. Been pretty much pishing it down with rain all day in Solden (snow line above the town). Started snowing at town level a couple of hours ago and already got at least 4 to 6 inches outside the motorhome. Still snowing hard so god knows what we'll wake up to. Was hoping for a powder day on the slopes tomorrow, but might be lucky to get skiing at all (sure I'm being pessimistic and Austrians will be well used to de long with this, getting the ski area open).

The cold outlook is begining to concern me as with little or no new growth in the next few weeks turning out stock may be delayed till May with all the sheds being emptied of hay and straw.. Any new growth in the cereals looks vulnerable to frost damage as well. Currently 5c and breezy.

NL, are we getting less warm weather over the year, or is it staying mild for longer at the back end to make up?

I realise this sentence doesn't make much sense but I am just up and have only had one cup of coffee.

A nice day so far (not been the best of weeks weather wise) but some light at the end of the tunnel. Not so cold but looks as if it will get colder....................

Yes last autumn in particular was mostly  very mild with grass growth into November. The winter was mild as well with exceptional grass growth in late February.

We had an outbreak of lice in the wintering sheep in January which had to be treated which the vet put down to the mild autumn and winter allowing them to live and multiply

However springs still seem to be able to live up to their habit of being just as likely to be cold and turnout to grass has been happening later for a few years now. Climate is a funny old thing.

Better morning here dry, moderate wind and 6.5c

Seems that next week we may see some cool or even cold weather and some on the model thread seem surprised by this but on many occasions in the sixties I remember cold snowy outbreaks in April.I have mentioned Easter 1968 before. I also remember going on a bus trip  from Forres to Aberdeen in late April in the early sixties which involved a cinema visit and coming out onto Holburn Street in the late afternoon into a very heavy dry snow shower.

On the way home I sat on the back seat of the bus watching the snow showers over the North Sea  to the east highlighted  in vivid colours in the setting sun. As we moved west you could see the line of showers moving south  across Buchan. There were fewer showers at home that day because of the mountains to the north.

My only unusual weather memory is one day in June it snowed when I was in Princes St in Edinburgh. It would be either late 60s or early 70s.  I think it was a  bad summer that year, no warmth.

Yes it really has been a total borefest/dullfest this weekend with regards to the weather.

Day off tomorrow so thinking about dusting off the barbecue...need to make the most of these elusive pleasant Spring days! ☀️
