Miserable here too. Wind freshening, rain and feeling cold at 6C. Saw some reports of snow on higher routes around Aberfeldy, Rannoch.

Localised though. Here is the Schiehallion road at around 309 mtrs. Nearby at Drummochter completely clear at over 400 mtrs asl.

The lesson here is do not use the GFS for short range forecasts I find the Euro4 is pretty decent but still gets it "wrong" quite often and in marginal situations slightly wrong can look very very wrong very quickly.

I think that event may have been 2016 but I can't remember that far back.

2015 - but my memory is going too - I had to trawl through the archives

This event reminds me of early Dec 2015 (I think) when a rain to snow event led to chaos in the Lothians. No real mention of it in the forecasts but @CatchMyDrift@ and I had been talking about the possibility as there was a slight hint on Euro4.

Great article and saved for future reference

some more from that event 3rd December 2015, from what I can remember it was rain here but quite a few were caught out with the snow in Edinburgh / Lothians

see pages 9, 10 and 11 of this from the Met Office https://digital.nmla.metoffice.gov.uk/digitalFile_e6f88df9-36b5-45c2-89df-e59bfc627b68/

It's been pouring down since daybreak hereabouts with an unpleasant, gloomy and foggy journey up ( and down) the A90 today. In the outward morning journey there was an occasional splash of sleet:nonono:.

Drizzle now back home - doggie refused to walk along to the gate to help pick up the post.

After a largely dry and benign February today stood out as particularly unpleasant: dreich, misty, wet and cool.

Definitely looking colder over the weekend and into next week with plenty of snow opportunities for the hills and, no doubt, some snow for the more favoured on this thread.

My thoughts are turning to spring, must be an age thing!

Heavy rain on again with 2.3 mm in the last hour, could be an interesting weekend as @edinburgh_1992 mentions with plenty of troughs in the flow with the 528 line across the country likely to produce heavy showers with sleet, hail, snow and possibly some thunder too 20190306.1831.PPVK89.png  20190306.0512.PPVL89.png  then one to look out for with a front possibly moving into the colder air with a wider chance of snow for many, @Hawesy get those snow predictions ready  :oldwink: 20190305.2234.PPVM89.png  anim_kzr3.thumb.gif.a925253af6b2bb7cea37fb73eaa01889.gif

Tomorrow looks showery some of which could be sleety with a pretty cold wind too anim_pzn5.thumb.gif.337ca99f672f6b8908208531ce1fc528.gif  nmm_uk1-43-24-0.thumb.png.7f51c8b736e467ac85e44131e9121b89.png Friday looks drier until afternoon probably around 1 pm onward as a front comes in with some showers anim_zke5.thumb.gif.82575aefc4cc16b461113f194c83471e.gif  20190306.1718.PPVI89.png and Saturday as I posted above looks like plenty of troughs in the flow and the coldest of the days with the highest chance of the showers having snow in them and I think the showers will be pretty frequent too 20190306.1831.PPVK89.png  anim_juj2.thumb.gif.5b5dea7f5f4dcf7c12ea8468cc76dc50.gif

so probably the earlier the better on Friday would be my choice

This webcam is in the far north-west of Italy looking up towards Monte Rosa.

They have had almost no snow all winter, they had snow in November but next to nothing since then. The whole region has been remarkably dry all winter.

Press the play button at the bottom left of the webcam image

https://www.lookr.com/lookout/1200500298-Macugnaga

I visited Macugnaga one year in the eighties. Beautiful place and Monte Ross is spectacular but it is some road to get up there (if it hasn’t been widened in the meantime. )When there I did see some photos of a blizzard the previous winter  that had left houses completely buried though when we were there it was more like this year if I recall correctly.

Meanwhile the wind has turned Northerly here too and there is a bit of an edge to it. Some passing light showers too.

The radar would have me on lamp post duty this evening but I know better.

Almost unrelentingly wet yesterday and most of today. Even turned to wet snow just outside Keith on the way home from work today. Didn't last though.

Glasgow was fairly sunny and bright today with broken cloud, but back at Montrose later with a northerly breeze and brief cold rain showers, it felt frigid. The car registered a temp of 4C. The gritters were out in force, including the ticket office official at the station who was racing up and down the platforms and steps pushing a mini salt-spreader on wheels, presumably to fulfil his H&S obligation before the end of his shift.  He was ignoring the growing queue anxious to purchase a ticket for the incoming Edinburgh-bound train.

The sunset over the Basin tonight.
