Although it's dry and sunny.............(ish) it is pretty hazy and you can tell the air's getting that dirty feel about it/ Sooner fronts start attacking to clear the skies the better

Was cold with haar yesterday and afternoon temps around 5/6c. Much more pleasant today, sun is out in St Andrews and it's currently 12c in very light winds.

.Not often you see Ben Wyvis so bereft of snow at this time of year - this is a view you would usually expect at the end of April let alone end of February.

Was up Schiehallion yesterday and there was very little snow to be seen anywhere - even the distant Ben Nevis and Cairngorms resembled the end of April, as you say, or even May.

Hopefully some snow will return to the hills in March.  We spotted this ptarmigan looking a bit vulnerable in its white winter plumage.

Starting next weekend, I can see many occasions for snow on our hills and mountains, down to low levels at times. Of course we need the jet stream to stay low, if the HP pushes too far north then our chances of seeing snow become 0.

In shirtsleeves bedding the cattle yesterday. Will indeed be a shock to the system for all creatures next week. Nature really out of tune now. Will be some nasty viruses that will take advantage of this next week.  Hearing from some horse owners that  laminitis is braking out rendering a lot of horses very lame caused by the sudden lush growth of grass in their fields and paddocks. Their feet swell and become very sore. Currently overcast ,dry and 13c

I used the words "more like mid-May" in my forecast for my FB page this morning and I don't think that was inaccurate:

We could hit 16C or 17C here today.

GFS has max temps of 2-4C by this time next week, it's going to be a shock to the system.

Top temp here so far 16.5 C currently sitting at 16.2 C clear skies, sun, crazy conditions for end of Feb and complete opposite to last year :cray:COME BACK SNAW WE MISS YOU :friends:

Some of the cooler / colder air could be associated with section(s) of the PV so some stormy conditions could be a possibility  gens-14-1-384.thumb.png.3d44502d389a45a3d8ef9fde6cc9cd26.png gens-19-1-264.thumb.png.c158e8ca6bcdadda6bc39ae7ef8ceae8.png gens-19-1-324.thumb.png.a2fe54e995e687baed38af7d5a753782.png

Yes, I can see numerous occasions for NW winds. We really need them to bring some snow back to the hills and mountains. Drier and sunnier in the east during these periods, so should feel quite pleasant in the March sunshine

South-westerlies are also likely at times, bringing gales and rain (as in the charts you posted)

Quite interesting to watch all the farmers round about refrain from sowing into ideal ground conditions and weather. Probably all saying to themselves its still February but I suspect there will be some that will start. In fact the ground is so dry now it might be slow to germinate.

Pigeons still eating tops on neeps so a sign to me that they are still short of other food. Wintering sheep getting fresh grass and not needing neeps so far.

High cloud cleared this afternoon so fabulous blue skies and very mild this afternoon but feels like it will be a cooler night ,currently 7c

Arthur’s seat earlier this evening. Perhaps Edinburgh could do with some rain asap?

Gorgeous morning here, crisp, clear and sunny. I'll take that any day! Makes a vast change from the murky dreichness we've had over the last week. Temp got down to 4c last night, that's practically getting back to ice age conditions! ⛄ Don't see this fine weather lasting too long though, probably be back to horizontal sleet soon.

We had patchy fog, not quite freezing fog near here last night, a bit of a collector's item for the Black Isle. 4C currently but should creep up in the sun.

Another glorious looking day after a frosty start. This time last year we were winding up the Beast in preparation for the Red snaw warning on the 1st March.

Am I the only person being plagued by cold calls starting 'This is BT...' in a synthesised androgynous south Asian voice? I'm not happy, in fact I'm quite sad. Doing my wibbleing head in.

Well we went to the seaside North Berwick, warm and sunny with blue sky and sea. And no people in the streets - like one of those films where aliens had come in the night and et everybody.  Quite ok actually.

Today might have been the best out of the recent spell with little wind and either full or hazy sun nearly all day. Went for a walk down to the lighthouse in just a shirt. And trousers. The firth was glassy in places - as it was yesterday.

The downer is seeing so much insect life appearing, knowing it's going to get wiped out again with no chance to reproduce. I was out last night collecting firewood and getting bombed by lesser yellow underwing moths which should stay hibernating till spring. I doubt many will have the reserves to last or even be able to find good places to go back to sleep.  There were also loads of all sorts of small creatures out and about, again reducing their chances to reproduce. The climate's already messed up enough but nearly everyone is still turning a blind eye.

Unfortunately if there's one thing as a species that we are really good at, that's it.

Back to normality tomorrow, sort of. It had a go at something more normal this morning too, with a slight frost on the car windscreen and the temp showing 2C most of the way to work. Still in double figures most of the way home though. Might just be coincidental, but I've noticed a lot more road kill the last couple of days. At least 2 badgers, a hare, and something unidentifiable (maybe cat size, but unlikely to be a domestic cat given it's location).
