Both the GFS and para are showing the potential of severe gusts which could possibly funnel though the central belt.

I won’t be surprised if the Met Office issue a amber warning tomorrow.

You are right, certainly looking interesting on the 18z

Wasn't expecting to have to scrape the car this morning! Seems to be a daily routine this winter! Nice morning. Partly cloudy 0.5c.

Bit different over here, 3.5C, misty and wet. No ice in sight.

1C here, calm, cloudy, no need rlto scrape car. Things beginning to turn green again but still plenty of snow remaining from the weekend and Monday's falls. In fact I could do with breaking up some of the compacted snow and ice where we park the cars as its become increasingly dangerous getting in and out of them.

Morning.

Currently 2.9c here with an SSW calmness.  Went out to the bin last night and noticed that it was unexpectedly slippy.   As temps didn't get below 2.1c overnight,  it made that a bit surprising. Anyhoo, not much happening weatherwise so far today.   A bit meh really.

Chilly, cloudy and damp.  No wind whatsoever despite virtually the whole bloody EBC forecast going on about how bloody windy it's going to be. :aggressive:

Ok, the sun's out now

No ice in Edinburgh, temperature got down to 2C this morning, but now it's back up to 5. Not massively mild though, feeling wintry

I am a bit worried about the storm between Friday and Saturday, the central belt will be hit badly by the storm. I was hoping that the models would shift the low further down south, but that didn't happen.

The peak gust across all the models I've looked at is going to be 70mph, most places will have gusts of 60mph and no more. A lot of tree damage and a few loose slates or chimneys down at worst. Still time to change but as it stands it doesn't look too bad.

As long as it doesn't turn out to be like 3rd January 2012

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/interesting/2012_janwind

I have never experienced winds like it, lost my fence and plenty of roof tiles that day. I am sure the low unexpectedly got deeper with very tight isobars across the central belt that day. I hope this never happens again.

@Stormeh - I've got to nearly 60 years and have been through 4 really scary storms that I can remember so I reckon they're a bit more frequent than we'd all like.

Hopefully this next low won't bomb...

I think that was the time I wrote the storm off as nothing unusual...and then the sting jet came and proved me wronger than pineapple on a pizza.

That’s the term I was looking for, a sting jet, thanks.

Lol. So you don't like PoP either. We should form a club. Just think yourself lucky you don't live with a family of militant vegans.

Must admit i do like stormy weather but i don't see it being anything out of the ordinary.'Hurricane bawbag' wasn't all that bad where i am mostly in the 60-70mph range although quite persistent as it lasted for a good 5/6 hours. The Jan 3rd storm was the strongest i've ever experienced. It only lasted about an hour but it was regularly getting to around 90mph.Plenty of sheet roofs blown off including the full roof on nearby council flats and there must have been a lot of tiles off with the amount of people up fixing their roofs over the following few weeks.Boxing day 98 was quite bad too but Jan 3rd was the only proper near Hurricane strength storm i've seen.

I missed Bawbag as was in Forth Valley Royal with the missus and the arrival of number 4. 3rd Jan was scary, the house I thought was moving almost like a mini earthquake, kids were terrified.

I am going to miss this one as well, as heading to Worcester in the morning for the weekend, her indoors has tickets to Boyz something at NEC. (PS I am not attending merely the chauffeur )

It's quite an interesting set-up as the surface wind is going to be north or slightly east of north, unusual for a toppler.

@Hairy Celt and I had this conversation the other day so it'll be interesting to see what happens with it.

some of the GEFS take on things ATM gens-0-2-78.png gens-3-2-78.png  gens-6-2-72.png gens-8-2-78.png gens-9-2-78.png  gens-16-2-78.png gens-17-2-78.png  gens-18-2-78.png  gens-19-2-78.png  gens-20-2-78.png

@CatchMyDrift - and everyone else :hi:- looks on the NetWx-MR to be slightly west of north (or at least just drifting west of north) by the time it's cold enough to snow (Sunday middle of the day), and by then the ppn will probably largely be for Sutherland and north-facing slopes. More runs needed! :whistling:

Not cold enough for snow for us unfortunately... We might've been ok had there been a cold spell before it. But after the storm, ground temperatures are going to be quite mild and any snow will be restricted to the hills (I'd say roughly 300m>)
