GFS does at least hint at some potential for snow across the Lothians tomorrow morning for a while:

prectypeuktopo.png

Can't imagine it'll bring the place to it's knees but it would be great to even get a dusting from a rogue shower or two.

The Met Office warning is also hilariously close to the house without quite getting there. Not sure that's a bad thing - they quite often underestimate the easterly extent of shower activity so we'll see what happens!

Could be worse I guess. Dry and frosty with a chance of a snow shower blowing through. Who wouldn't take that over what usually hits us from the west

Now - this moment of positivity has exhausted me - expect serious misery at some point this week

At last, some snow - all 1cm of lovely powder.

Not enough to cause much disruption but enough to make everything look proper winter like

Dead calm outside, -1c and sunny so a nice winters walk coming up.

For here though the Met office is not very inspiring for the rest of the week, no sign of any more snow if their app is to be believed.

Woke up to a surprising 4, maybe 5cm of that nice powder this morning. The extra height and maybe a bit more luck with the track of the showers making the difference perhaps. Temp was between -1 and -3 on the commute along largely untreated minor roads and slushy A roads until I hit the A96 at Huntly, which was just wet. Definitely a lot less snow towards Keith & Fochabers, but still a dusting at both.

The euro4 still looking good for parts of the central belt, some of the showers should hopefully make it over to the east.

Thursday’s low looks like it won’t even make it north of the midlands according to what they are saying in the mad house. The GFS and para still show it moving up into the central belt so hopefully the GFS is correct. A lot of uncertainty this week which makes it kind of exciting. Fingers crossed we all see some of the white stuff!

The Met haven’t even nailed Thursdays low, the model thread tends to be bias to the Midlands south anyway! We should have a Scottish model thread

Think that is the first front shown on the fax charts  20190128.1257.PPVA89.png  and lots of troughs in the flow to look forward to tomorrow and possibly enough of a westerly flow to help bring the showers to areas further east like myself and other snow starved easterners 20190128.1108.PPVE89.png  20190128.0512.PPVG89.png  ❄️ tumblr_min0zwMn091qjnqapo1_500.gif

I often think the BBC clothing department hate the weather ladies as they appear in some rotten outfits. Perhaps this trend has been extended to the met O

Yes. This one is just dreadful. It's a shame because it's actually a decent forecast for snow!

Just had a shower pass through and can confirm it was snow. I only expected rain this evening. Hope we catch some more.

Not getting too excited about the next 12-24hrs. Potential for some showers bringing a dusting of snow. ARPEGE is saying aye why not, ICON-EU, GFS et al saying not a chance mate. Fri/Sat could be interesting but more runs needed. Enjoy the snow when it comes westerners!

Somebody in the banter thread mentioned a Polar Low sweeping into Scotland Friday/Saturday. and just seen a southerner call northerners bitter coz the snow is going down south. pmsl yes we are all very jealous of your once in a decade 5cm of snow that we would call a dusting that we get every winter at some point.lol. crackers in there this week.
