Nothing major but the Euro4 and meto forecasts going for more snow showers this evening for the west. I missed yesterday's fun but sounded like a decent event.

Coldest day of the year (and probably previous night).

Car was reading -5c at 1am when i got home. Neighbour said it was -6c at 06:30.

Got up to 0c before freezing fog engulfed us.

About 1600 the snow came on, leaving a wee covering. Currently -1.5c.

We do well out of any westerly component, always going to be winners and losers.

First lying snow of the winter here on the western fringe of Dumfries

Not amazing but i’ll take it!

It's up on Ben Venue in the Trossachs. More snow up above 600m than I was expecting tbh, so trailbreaking was periodically horrendous......but of course, wonderful at the same time

Worth keeping an eye on Saturday evening, heavy snowfall could occur.... ECMWF based forecast for Saturday in Edinburgh. 0C level dropping to 200m with snow down to the coast.

GFS P confirms , whilst GFS operational goes for a much milder and drier solution Screenshot_20190123-193716.thumb.png.af53fabe9bce3613a2e95e103ec6e1ee.png

Sparkly snizzle here just now. Looks like this weak front is moving NW-SE and pepping-up maybe.

An Italian site called ilMeteo, their forecasts are based on the ecmwf model.

A few times it has been more accurate than the metoffice and bbc, for example during the December snowfall event. I also find the 0C altitude quite handy when determining if it will snow or not. Shame that uk sites don't offer such data in their forecasts (snow level and 0°C heights).

GFS18 is quite painful, hopefully we get a better run in the morning... Anything but south-westerlies please!

Snaw cover still intact. Third ice day of the winter so far today, with a max of -0.4C. Average temperature for the past seven days was -0.6C. Winter has arrived - finally. Some more very light snaw this evening and currently -3.1C/-4C. All is well.

All the charts look tidy for next week

A continuation of the generally cold and dry theme or something different?
