Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski suffered a shock defeat by Liam Broady and Cameron Norrie in the opening game of Murray's Battle of the Brits.

Broady, 26, and Norrie, 24, won 3-6 7-5 11-9 as elite British men's tennis returned behind closed doors.

The six-day charity event, organised by Murray, is being played at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

Later on  today (Tuesday), Andy Murray will play his first match in seven months when he takes on Broady.

He's an absolute tool so it's all good, but I have to say the incident didn't look all that bad to me. It was clearly an accident and he didn't hit the ball all that hard.

A superb ladies US final ..

Naomi Osaka demonstrated her growing maturity to fight back against Victoria Azarenka in a compelling US Open final and claim her third Grand Slam title.

Japanese fourth seed Osaka, 22, won 1-6 6-3 6-3 for her second US Open title.

Osaka was overwhelmed in the first set and in danger of trailing 3-0 in the second but then won 10 of the next 12 games to seize the momentum.

The Belarusian, 31, in her first major final since 2013, was broken for 5-3 in the decider before Osaka served out.

And .. a truly wonderful men's final too ..

Austria's Dominic Thiem clinched his first Grand Slam title after a gritty fightback from two sets down stunned Alexander Zverev in the US Open final.

Second seed Thiem, 27, had lost his previous three major finals and looked destined for another agonising defeat.

But 23-year-old Zverev, playing in his first Slam final, became edgy at key moments and Thiem took full advantage.

Both players failed to serve out victory in a tense decider before Thiem sealed a 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (8-6) win.

Aye, harsh on Djokovic, pure accident, and hardly worst temper ever, seen worse and just a warning, Djokovic would have won title if he wasn't disqualified

All Brits out of the singles by day 3 end.  🙄

Heather Watson was unable to prolong British interest in the French Open singles after losing her first-round match to France's Fiona Ferro.

Watson, 28, was the final Briton in the draws after five of her compatriots were beaten on the opening two days.

But the world number 56 lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to Ferro, who is ranked seven places higher in the world.

Watson's defeat means she has lost six straight matches since the professional game returned in early August.

Three-time champion Serena Williams has withdrawn from the French Open 2020 because of an Achilles injury.

The 39-year-old had been scheduled to play her second-round match against Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova on Wednesday.

The American has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and was aiming to equal Margaret Court's all-time record of 24.

"I think I need four to six weeks of sitting and doing nothing," Williams told a news conference.

"I have been struggling to walk so that's a telltale sign that I should try to recover.
