    Sadly i expected a Djokovic win albeit in 4 sets. Federer was taken to 4/5 against his last three nobodies so clearly not in the grove or carrying a small injury. 

    Was suprised Nadal lost which was more notable and (Theim probably) will have a crack albeit likely to lose.

    Britain's Jamie Murray moved a step closer to an eighth Grand Slam doubles title as he and Bethanie Mattek-Sands reached the Australian Open final.

    Murray and American Mattek-Sands saw off Australian wild cards Astra Sharma and John-Patrick Smith 6-3 7-6 (7-4).

    They will face fifth seeds Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic and Croatia's Nikola Mektic on Saturday.

     

    Britain's Gordon Reid reached the final of the Australian Open men's wheelchair event with victory over Joachim Gerard of Belgium.

    The Scot, bidding for his first Grand Slam singles title since Wimbledon in 2016, won 6-4 7-5.

    He will face top seed Shingo Kunieda in the final after the Japanese beat fellow Briton Alfie Hewett 6-3 6-3.

    Reid and Hewett will team up in the men's doubles final after beating Kunieda and Gustavo Fernandez.

    They won 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 10-5 and will face French top seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in the final.

      Sofia Kenin  (America) beats  Garbine Muguruza (Spain) in the Australian Open women's singles final
    4-6  6-2 and 6-2 .  Her first Grand Slam win.

    Mattek-Sands/Murray 7-5 4-6 [1-10] Krejcikova/Mektic

    Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost in the mixed doubles final.
    Close in two sets, but well beaten in the deciding tie-break / 3rd set.

    Lovely news that Joe Salisbury wins !
     

    Britain's Joe Salisbury claimed his first Grand Slam doubles title as he and partner Rajeev Ram won the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.

    The 27-year-old and American Ram, 35, beat Australian wildcards Max Purcell and Luke Saville 6-4 6-2 in the final on the Rod Laver Arena.

    A 4 hour, 5 set thriller.  Novak Djokovic the Aussie Champ .. for the 8th time.
    Thiem played so well and at one stage lead 2 sets to 1.

    The WTA/ATP have brought in a raft of precautionary measures to try and reduce the spread of coronavirus.

    • Players and mascots will not hold hands when walking out on court
    • Ball kids will be provided with gloves to wear on court
    • Ball kids will not handle player towels during matches
    • Ball kids will not handle player drinks during matches
    • Players will be instructed to not distribute used towels, headbands, shirts, sweatbands, etc. to fans following matches or practice
    • Players will not accept pens, tennis balls or other items to hold for autograph signing

    "The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has announced the return of the British Tour during July. A total of four events will take place over as many weeks. Each tournament will have a field of 32 players with 16 men and 16 women. Participants are eligible to take part based on their current ranking providing they are a member of the LTA. All four tournaments will be held over three days (Friday-Sunday) at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. There will also be doubles action with eight teams featuring in a FAST4 format over one day each week." ......

    Andy Murray has confirmed he will play at the Battle of the Brits tournament in Roehampton from 23rd to 28th June with all money raised from the behind closed doors event going to NHS Charities Together

    Can't say it is a surprise.
    No social distancing, ball kids handling towels .. the lot.

    Hopefully Novak will recover well.

     

    It comes after Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki all revealed they had coronavirus after playing at Djokovic's Adria Tour competition.

    Djokovic, 33, played fellow Serb Troicki in the first event in Belgrade.

    Great Britain's Andy Murray said the positive tests were a "lesson for us", while Australian Nick Kyrgios called playing a "bone-headed decision".
