*Excellent news re. the Davis Cup   ?

Andy Murray will represent Great Britain for the first time since 2016 after being named in the squad for next month's inaugural Davis Cup finals.

Captain Leon Smith has named Dan Evans, plus doubles pair Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski, in his initial team with a fifth player still to be decided.

Kyle Edmund, who has lost his past seven tour matches, is not included.

Britain, who won the Davis Cup in 2015, face the Netherlands and Kazakhstan in the group stage on 20 and 21 November.

"A nerveless Stefanos Tsitsipas came from a set down to beat Dominic Thiem on a thrilling final-set tie-break and become the youngest winner of the ATP Finals in 18 years.

The Greek, 21, won 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to claim the biggest title of his fledgling career."  (BBC)

I've relished the whole tournament.  Unusual to see Nadal, Djokovic and Federer all beaten over the first 3 days at the London Finals.
The final match was super entertainment.

Rafa Nadal ends the year 2019 as the number one ranked Tennis player. With this trophy, the Spanish player equalled the record of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic of ending a year at the no. 1 ATP rankings for the fifth time. In that list, the Tennis stalwart is just behind former American star Pete Sampras who has achieved the feat six times
Nadal at 33 is the oldest to win the ATP No.1 title.

GB did very well, but go out of the Davis Cup Finals after losing to Spain.
Kyle won his singles, Dan lost his and then Jamie and Neal lost to Rafa and Felici in the doubles.

So the host nation Spain go on to play in the final today against Canada.

And just to round off my Davis Cup chat ..

"Rafael Nadal clinched an emotional Davis Cup victory for Spain over Canada when he beat Denis Shapovalov in front of a jubilant home crowd in Madrid.

His 6-3 7-6 (9-7) win sealed the title, with Roberto Bautista Agut returning to the team three days after his father's death to put the hosts 1-0 up.

Bautista Agut was in tears after beating 19-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 in the opener.

Nadal's win gave Spain an unassailable 2-0 lead and a sixth Davis Cup title."   (BBC)

Great Britain gave themselves the chance of reaching the ATP Cup quarter-finals by sweeping aside Moldova in their final group tie in Sydney.

Knowing defeat would mean elimination, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans won their singles against Alexander Cozbinov and Radu Albot to clinch victory.

Jamie Murray and Joe Salisbury sealed a 3-0 win with a 6-2 6-2 success over Albot and Cozbinov in the doubles.

    Well I'm gutted .. having watched 3 matches in a row ..
team GB lost the deciding doubles rubber, so Australia go through to the ATP Cup semis.
We did well I guess, to get to the Quarters.

The 3-6 6-3 18-16 win for Nick Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur after a match tie-break gave the hosts a 2-1 win.

Dan Evans had earlier kept Britain in the tie with a thrilling three-set win over De Minaur.

Kyrgios had beaten Cameron Norrie in the opening singles in Sydney.

Australia will play Spain or Belgium on Saturday for a place in the final of the inaugural edition of the men's team tournament.
