Looks like accuweather is not having that a brilliant winter forecast again. Yes it has been mild at times but that graphic is just bizarre. How can you get a scenario like that unless a main low pressure sits to the west of Ireland and there are low pressures moving up the eastern flank of the parent low bringing gales to western areas that then swing out back into the Atlantic?

"The second half of the season — including January and February — is predicted to be even busier, with Northern Ireland, southwestern Scotland, northwestern England and Wales most likely to be hit."   Well January has been relatively quiet.

"Unlike last year, prolonged dry periods are not anticipated so regions which are coping with drought conditions, such as southern England, may recover." Actually January has been drier than average comfortably, driest January since 2006 by the looks of it and add on dry week of last December.

IMO, I think their winter forecasts are pretty poor overall.

Well near winter's end and that was not a very good forecast.

Only one named storm this January and February, so not frequent windstorms and it hasn't been wet since Christmas. It does say mild at times  but nothing much going for that forecast.

Last day of Winter!

Alright, I know Winter is bound to bite back in March and i'm sure we'll be punished for a week of early spring with a couple of months of rain and gales, but i'll still pop the champagne!

Normally, you get at least one professional/amateur forecast correct, this Winter for Britain & ireland has been one of epic failure.

Wouldn't it be great, were the 'correct' ones made by the same forecaster...it'd mean that somebody actually knew what they were talking about?

My question is would people rather have another good summer, followed by another mild winter, or have a poor summer for 2019 which would probably lead to a colder winter?

I know it doesn’t always work that way. Personally, although I like snow, I would rather have another good summer even if next winter is mild again. I’ll just fly somewhere cold for snow

Last summer was boring too much sun too little excitement like torrential downpours at least 2007 was extremely exciting but way OTT.

Today`s been an oddity dull westerlies and showery rain still hazy, many layers of clouds and dark.

Odd chart.

19C here yesterday. Almost felt like summer never mind spring. I saw my first wasp of the year too.

Sharp contrast with the same date last year!

Just for info, I had thought that winter was over and put the horses out nekkid. Now, some of you may remember I posted a while back the observation that my horses suddenly drink their entire water buckets overnight in their stables, starting about 48 hours before a cold snap. I hadn't been following the model thread, having given winter up as a dead loss. Two days ago I discovered that both had finished their water overnight. Being convinced that winter was over I was sure this put paid to my theory. Then I saw the forecast yesterday this morning they had again finished their water. This evening I had a look in the model thread. It seems my theory still has legs.
