Hunt For Cold: Model Discussion - Heading Into Christmas

Paul
Message added by Paul

If you're hunting for cold potential in the model output, this thread is for you. But if you'd like to look more widely at the models, please head over to the general model discussion thread.

This is a model related thread, so a general, frequent theme of the model output is a given, but it will not be strictly enforced:

  • Some topic drift, humorous responses etc are fine
  • Posts likely to lead the thread off on an entirely off topic tangent are not ok. For example (but not solely limited to): Posts entirely or mainly about Met Office, BBC or media forecasts with little or no model context, and posts solely asking for a weather forecast in a specific location.
  • Posts which start with something like 'I know this is off topic but ...' are not ok.
  • Posts which break the forum guidelines are not ok (eg trolling, troll-hunting, weather guilt tripping, overly defensive/aggressive, abusive, disrespectful to others)

Unless and until upstream Pacific flow is resolved, and until strat downwelling takes place, out to day 10 will have a strong mid latitude high component for NW Europe.

Could still nick a conti-(partial feed) here and there in that time though!!!...

As a wee taster.

I’m after spitting coffee all over the laptop! Thanks

Lets hope the P is in the money, seriously cold and snowy for all. You get the feeling we’ll get lots more runs as good if not better over the next few days!

Yes, yes, yes, it's at 384......but just look what the GFSP has produced:

Some seriously frigid air incoming from our east/northeast.  Of course, it will be different on the next run but this is the hunt for cold after all.

I knew there was a good reason to have an extra days holiday!

All-in-all, though it's been a bit erratic, everything's pointing in the right direction...we might even be in polar-low territory, were these uppers to transpire...

Would bank the GFS(P). Nice easterly to finish! Feels a bit quick to me but still nice to see some charts that don't have a high parked straight over the top of us.

GFS, GEFS and GGEM starting to find some consistency on the building Alaskan ridge around day 10. That allows ridge development in the North Atlantic.

Notably end of GFS (p) and op also starting to develop sub-polar lows days 12+ across the NH, suggestion of slowing zonal winds aloft.

No sooner does GP speak than the GFS para quakes in obedience to the great one and delivers winter at the stipulated timeframe .
