Met Eireann now calling a countrywide Orange alert for tomorrow's storm Brendan. Wouldn't be surprised if it's red on parts of the west coast by tomorrow.

She’s getting windy and will only get worse throughout the day with warnings in place.

Haven’t had a decent look at the mod thread, any sign of cooling down?

High Pressure building in this weekend, so cooling down due to that. Charts for Sunday - looks like it will stick around for a few days post that.

It’s fierce windy out there right now, waiting in the school to pick up the young lad and there’s branches down everywhere and the flag pole is bending and fierce wobbly!

Back edge of frontal rain from #StormBrendan includes bright echoes on  radar, embedded line convection bringing heavier downpours, squally gusts and horrible conditions this lunchtime.  heading east this afternoon. Slight lull as front clears but another swipe from core winds for NW coast later this aftenroon into evening. Some differences on model but worth keeping an eye on.

stained glass window!! Strongest gusts of the day moving through now, heavy sleet blowing making visibility really poor. Opened my back door and it looked like a hurricane blowing through!!

Out at sea ...but a sting jet none the less! ...not that you would want it anywhere near you.

Yes, it does have the characteristics as much as I understand them. The shape and drier air ver clear. So much energy in there isn’t there? Just amazing.

Damaged my gate Brendan did! Think I actually saw a bit of sleet yesterday! Anyway, first real sign of winter and it's cold out there today, for a change...  Anyone got any sort of gut feeling for the white stuff coming?

This year is out doing last year for worst winter ever

I'm still hopeful for the end of the month from the MJO phase 7 giving a polar North Westerly or Northerly.

Latest from Met Eireann for tomorrow

Tomorrow

Friday will be cold with sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers mainly of rain or hail, but some of the showers possibly turning to sleet or snow in parts of Ulster but any accumulations will be limited.

Met office completely different

Friday:

Mainly dry with some sunny spells. One or two showers are possible mainly over western counties in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Metoffice was right this winter sucks big time.

There were showers in Ulster today, wasn't there? And it was that cold I'd imagine there was wintery showers somewhere.

Anyway, it's supposed to get down to -4 tonight. Think I'll keep the dog in!
