@TomW what did you get down to, as I have no weather station and yours would be closest observation.

Like an ice skating rink outside where the snow has compacted down, it's crazy

Day 3. Actually, would this be day 4,seeing as the snow started on Thursday evening?

I can heartily recommend the studded slip on things to go on over your shoes for grip. Get big ones though, as mine wouldn't go on over my wellies, but were fine on a pair of sturdy flat shoes.

I'm about 8 miles from Benson and could only manage a -5.6 Brrrr!

Back in 2010 (Dec) we had -15. Same set up as last night with good snow cover, no wind and clear skies. I surprised a fellow dog walker with just how cold it was this morning. In a sense she was right as it didn't feel that cold ( no wind, sun just coming up), but the thermometer doesn't lie.

Nearly 9am and it's still chilly -7

did get down much lower overnight similar to warmin.

A lot of snow cover left even though some thaw yesterday.

So off sledging shortly after breakfast for third day in a row ?

Car thermometer read -11 at 8am here.  Spent a good 15 minutes defrosting it then couldn't get it off the drive!

Rest of the week looking much milder, so a rapid thaw will be underway once the temp climbs above freezing today!

Beautiful day here yesterday. Although the side streets around here are treacherous, the main roads to Chippenham by car were fine. Managed to get to the pub & back with a chippy tea by avoiding the pavements & walking down the middle of the of the roads. Still lots of snow around but yesterday’s partial thaw means it’s an ice rink out there this morning, phone app says -5 & the backdoor key is frozen in the lock!

Morning all, another beautiful morning here and not feeling cold despite it being the coldest night of the winter so far. Got down to -7 here but a couple of miles down the road in the valley it was -10.8. We live in the mild south west eh, hmmmm. Still got my stray cat camping out in the porch, his shelter gets more and more elaborate, spent yesterday afternoon wrapping it in celotex insulation, so glad I did.

Mr Calneee has just done the same & says car is reading -6.

Is anyone able to point me in the direction of where I can go for more accurate local temps than our car & phone apps?

https://www.wunderground.com/

By search there is a little icon click that and it will find closest station but if you scroll down to the bottom of the page there are more stations that are local!

Most of my family live down Frampton, I go down the miners from time to time not very often though, same with the Indian normally go up on Birthday's if you are ever in Yate and fancy a take out at we have a Chinese called Fortune House, it's the best around here don't know if it will come close to the Frampton chippy though

Thanks Zephyr I’m in Yate everyday tbh mum and dad still live there and it’s home to my official weather station (-7.2c min last night) but yes the Frampton chippy is second to none I think I use to play snooker in the miners in my misspent youth

I’ll be home in an hour TomW (been on a 50 mile round trip taking pictures this morning) and I’ll see where mine ended up but I think you would have beat me. I was at -9.2c when I left home at 7.30am.

That's mad, traffic chaos still. Apart from a few spots in the garden where the sun doesn't reach at this time of year the snow is all but vanished.
