Not looking good for Oxford area, think we are too far north for this one  Not expecting anything until much later if at all. I wait to be proved wrong

Checking the latest radar vs models ... only the ECM had the track of the front right so far. All the others - miles off, even my trusty ARPEGE!!

ECM had the front Weymouth - Minehead at 4pm, then just short of Bristol to The Needles by 5pm, Bristol to Brighton by 6pm, and then most the area south of the M4 by 7pm where it starts to stall out.

Which front?

Might well be that things went awry following the upgrade to Doppler. Pretty sure someone else mentioned that earlier this winter.

. . . . . . .

Very cold feel to the wind outside here, similar to what ARPEGE predicted for this time but probably a degree or two higher (that being the usual bias).

Ngl the fronts precipitation looks more intense and covers a much larger area to what is suggested even on the latest ICON 12z and ARPEGE 12z runs!

It better hadn't stall just south of the M4 .. need it to go just a smidge north

Also as far as I can estimate via observing the progress during the past 2 hours, the main band is on track to arrive here around 4 pm, close to the consensus of the morning model runs.

Assuming, of course, that it doesn't slow forward motion much during the next hour.

I know, I know. Now casting etc. But for Swindon we’ve seen downgrades alL day so far from heavy snow to just light from 7pm for 12 hrs and now it’s jumped back to this... taking the snow righty through to tomorrow afternoon continuous

Snow now easing off as front clears through. Fantastic hour or so of really heavy, settling snow. Just goes to show, no frost last night, woke up to 6c and light drizzle first thing and within minutes temperature had dropped 4-5c and snow settling almost straight away.

Yep, suspect Haldon will be a big headache.  I think a lot of the amber warning in the SW is going to be related to the snow being proceeded by rain and therefore prescriptive gritting is simply not going to work.  I wonder if DCC still have their work gangs of highway maintenance people camped out at the top and bottom of Haldon Hill?

My wife's just driven through... snowing at top of Haldon but not settling yet. Gritters out in a major way on the hill .

'The latest contracts to be awarded to LARS Communications by the Met Office are for the radar site upgrades at Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis and Munduff Hill, in Kinross

These contracts are part of the Met Office’s Weather Radar Renewal Project and follow on from the recently completed site at Dean Hill in Wiltshire'

They've completed it? Blimey. It doesn't work.

ICON 12z out to +27 here is the accumulations

That's PPN accumulations, not snow accumulations, hence why Cornwall is green.
