Morning all, sharpest frost of the winter here -5 with a dewpoint of -7, nothing marginal about those figures. Everything is white and sparkly here, just needs a good coating of snow to top it off, fingers crossed.

Still got the Christmas trees that stood either side of my door, they're waiting to be burnt but haven't shed a needle, sorely tempted to reinstate them for the weekend just to see what a white Christmas would have looked like

Blimey, I've just checked MetO site for Winterbourne and Yate. Looks like heavy snow from mid afternoon until late evening! That's a huge improvement! I am starting to believe....

I hope that doesn't just come through but instead slows , pivets then drops down further.

It all looks much further north to me as I thought only the southwest was getting it.

Bonus could be that

more people in the north can have fun too

the stuff they get moves south giving us more on top of already what's heading in .

Itv West said rain possibly turning to snow!! Possibly?? I mean really..

Well to be fair the GFS and most apps have it as marginal, whereas the Met Office are pumping it confidently as snow.

I think the Met Office have this right: mainly a snow event.

Well, have lost two of the heavy snow symbols on the metoffice forecast.  The upside is, it showing a longer period of snow now.

I have a feeling this won't be our last chance at snow today.

I've got a potted Christmas tree in the garden and I must say it looks very happy and healthy out in the frost, tempted to stick some lights on it snd hope for a dusting :reindeer-emoji:

Temps holding steady at -4.3°C, dew -5

Guys good luck today -As they say one mans loss is another mans gain - well for once in the UK the south & SW are going to gobble up the Norths snow

Someone in North Devon / Somerset / Wilts / Hamps - could hit the jackpot >10cm

I've lived down this way a lot and it's really bizarre but I've seen several absolutely huge snow dumps. You'd think it shouldn't be the case, but it is. I guess it's the age old weather lore that when a warm or occluded front hits cold air, and stalls, it's the south west which can really cop it. I've seen it so often here.

It will reach about 5 today around midday in your location.

i think we're going to be just the wrong side of marginal here. I'm about 1.5 miles inland and i suspect i won't have to go far to find the snow line.

maybe better prospects for friday here?

Good to see this model keep improving the totals for most of the region.

Maybe overnight tonight. I'm just too close to the coast. Have a feeling if we went over ferndown or parley or verwood it would be a very different story.

Two hard frosts in a row and the run up to this event has been plain sailing. This never happens! Bring it on.

The new forest will too i should think - the bit up Poulner Hill is always good.

in these situations i just end up waiting and hoping for positive news from coastal locations further west...

It'll be rain here when the front arrives. It's on a knife edge as to the transition to snow, and if it does, most of the precip will have moved further inland.

Well I'm feeling excited now !!  Woke up to a temp of -6.1c,  it's now just reached -5.2c .

Housework done, cup of tea at hand, tablet fully charged with charger close buy, now I'm ready for a day of forum reading and radar watching.
