The windchill has certainly kicked in now the direction and speed has changed. Hoping for some low stats tonight!

Is it swinging round to the North, Mapantz? It's been ESE all afternoon but now SW...

Temp slowly falling. 4.7 in central Bournemouth with about 2.7mm of rain in the past hour. Not a chance of even any sleet mixed in.

Just to give an overview of Thursday.  Obvs don't take the chart to literally as there is a lot of uncertainty regarding Thursday, just to show that this is far from being forecast as a "memorable" event, just a modest SW winter snowfall that will probably be gone by Friday lunchtime, if indeed it happens at all.  These are the accumulations we are looking at, varying either way depending on what model you use;

Are we sure ICON is capable of such detail, looks about the right zone geographically (maybe a bit to far north) but the depths look a bit haphazard to be honest.

The resolution looks a bit vague, if the blues are representing altitude they are missing the cotswolds and chilterns, also the moors in the south west, though it has picked out the high ground south of Dublin.

Obviously the 12z UKV model was good re snowfall for my area, as my Met Office App ( which I believe is derived from the UKV ) now as me down for heavy snow between 18:00 & midnight Thursday night.

Snow here

It was raining in Bradford on Avon when I left about an hour ago, turned to heavy sleet at about the A36, turned to light snow after Norton St Phillip, changing to heavy snow as I climbed the hills towards home. It was settling here too, grass turning white but sadly now melting as the snow has stopped.

Any more to come or is that it?

10 minutes of excitement with massive wet blobs of snow falling and settling but eased back to light sleet now.

Ice will be a big problem overnight into tomorrow.

Not really, hence my caveat in my original post.  I just posted to demonstrate the rough type of event we are looking at and to lean people's expectations away from any type of "snowmageddon" event as that looks unlikely.

20 years I've been meaning to turn my dark cluttered loft into a lovely "study" (woman-shed for weather watching and star gazing)! Hopefully your sleet will turn into beautiful powder soon!

STILL 4.2C and dp 1.1C here :wallbash:

Managed to become heavy enough for a time to produce a few flurries of very large flakes among the pouring rain. Now the rates have eased and it's almost entirely rain again. Not sure if the light rates out west will do the job here... colder flow cutting in but evaporative cooling less. Tricky balance. Not expecting much.

Still did better than Dec 2017's event .

Local station on Wunderground reporting 0.0 with a dew point of -3c, even allowing for that stations tendency to be 0.5 - 1c colder than other local stations, it's prime snow temperature territory. Someone mentioned earlier about a Bristol channel streamer, manna from heaven for this area, the last time (February 2009) we got about a foot of snow from one. Is there really a chance?

Pub in Bradford today.....seemed like sound advice so we followed it
