Amazing, your like 40 miles SE of me and it literally looks like a different country compared to what I can see outside, madness!!

    From the MetO earlier:

    This Evening and Tonight:

Sleet and snow stalling overhead but becoming lighter and more intermittent with time. Southern coastal districts are more likely to see rain or sleet, whereas inland areas may see some snow accumulations.

Er.... no. Also ref Bognor seafront.

I know forecasting snow is a nightmare, and that plenty in the region have had decent falls (also, the night is young). But this is poor from the MetO, no?

Best of luck yo you guys and girls in the South. Don't give up hope if it starts as rain. It rained here for about 2 hours now it's heavy snow. You should be good for a few cms also as it's very heavy

I seriously think I will keep missing it, I've missed it all night now (nearly 5hrs into the event) I see no reason for that to change, I really don't.

As I said, there has to be some influence from the Downs here, its the only thing I can explain it with. I am at a total loss otherwise.

Whitefox will not be seeing me in my birthday suit tomorrow!

I think you'll have a covering within the next hour actually.

Please can someone tell me what areas the pivot is likely to be good for?

Still don't think we've found the pivot yet, all still seems to be sliding northwest atm, clear slot moving into south London now

Ha, I've waited 4hrs for literally nothing, to be chasing dry slots left right and center. At least you have got snow!

Don't worry kold I'll send some to you in the post.

Just been out with the dog. Nothing like the sound of fresh squeaky snow underfoot!

Very wet snow though and very different depths depending on surface. Varies from about 5-6cm on some cars and plants, to about 2cm on some pavements. I'm guessing that the temperature being just above freezing has contributed to that.

Looking at radar, looks like snow easing for now as band is still heading north. Some heavier showers still to south so maybe a bit more to come.

Back edge is approaching, one last chance at snow tonight before its officially over and the front is to our north.

what are the odds guys...I think more or less 100/1 at this time based on history!

Good to see central London in the action. I'm currently in that giant hole under London. However, is that band underneath coming towards us?

Once we find the pivot will it somewhat stall before eventually sinking back south and east?

The wind is really picking up from the East, so maybe the pivot is about to occur?

Radar showing pink then dark pink since 22.30 but the first few flakes have literally just started to fall.  There is about 1cm of snow left in shady areas around the fields from Tuesday night.  Lowest temp of the winter so far was last night, min -7.8C, currently it's 0.7C.

Visitors from northern China arrive tomorrow lunchtime.  It's been down to -20C at night there but very little precipitation, it will be so exciting if snow is falling or even lying when they get here!

The good news Steve is the UKMO are showing another area moving up through the area later tonight, I think its starting to develop right to my south.

Still looking pretty weak if I extrapolate the tracks of the showers, nothing really decent at all showin itself here!

Why is the band ALWAYS at its weakest point when it crosses here, this is about the 5th time tonight that has happened!

Think we may have done a smidge better than you here in Fleet (about 2 x 20 mins of flurry totally maybe 2.5mm ?) so I feel your pain. The MetO forecasts have looked good to great, the radar looks full of potential and temps and dps have been good. And yet it all seems so weak. I know snow 8s notoriously difficult to forecast but tonight even the nowcasts give poor returns.

I am staying up - if only to squeeze another hour or so of hope out what has been disappointing so far, albeit arguably not a total bust.

    Chin up @kold weather
