Finally... on the seafront in Hastings. A good 5/10 rate... ground will start to cool and may settle if it continues for a couple of hours.

If it shows black just wait for it to pan around/in/out

Probably because it's such a small-scale feature (in the grand scheme of things compared to most larger-scale upper-level features). Looks like the upper low slowly weakens as it continues to clear eastwards through tonight, so expected a slow weakening of the precipitation over SE England over the coming hours, but it could still snow for some time yet given it's slow movement and decay.

Thanks very much for the explanation, been a typically hit and miss snowfall. What are your thoughts on snowfall from showers across Norfolk/Suffolk overnight? Meto warning for showers seems quite extensive when ppn seems quite limited and prone to fizzling out across Nfolk/Sfolk.

Bit of deja vu from last year GP? Drive the wife nuts. I left the snowfields of Beckenham for this garbage!

And you chose Horley?

light snow here - I was going to take a photo but nothing settling in the lower parts of Reigate except on my neighbour’s car!

I suspect the warning for East Anglia is more catered for the ice aspect rather than snow accumulations. (That said of course we have accumulating snow right now in SW Essex). The odd cm or two might be possible very locally, mainly above 100m, but I suspect it'll struggle to settle for most places (if not falling as rain/sleet in any case)

Should’ve done my research. And Horley kind of chose me....

Heavy sleet here. Intensity not an issue but the usual variables clearly are.

I would wait and see. Temps are lower than predicted (1c), and we have seen that London etc has got some unexpected snowfall.

23:15hrs Southend update.

Hoorah. After almost 24hrs continuous rain, I am pleased to report it has stopped. Must of been getting on for an inch of the horrible stuff.

Quite possibly one of the most depressing 24hr periods I have witnessed in my Netweather history. Good riddance.

So, when’s the next “event” ?

Don’t think it was to do with the temps mate @D.V.R

we were just unlucky to be in a hollow spot

snowing now and settled immediately

hope this continues to be honest

Yep, same here, everything including pavements and residential road outside getting a covering now, not really moving much this snow over London too, Met Office precipitation graphic loop clearing this south of London by midnight, can't see that

Nice clump of showers just off north Norfolk coast so some should get hit in next 15mins.They look quite beefy so could give a nice covering to those underneath them?

Snowing here near Croydon, but not settling apart from on cars for now, just not the intensity to for very wet ground. Higher parts to my south over North Downs probably fare better no doubt.

Heavy snow in Shirley and settling everywhere now

Worth noting that there is a suggestion parts of Cambs / Herts (especially over the hills there i.e. Stevenage-Stansted etc) could get a couple of cm from the showers feeding down from the north tonight. Perhaps 1-2cm locally in Norfolk/Suffolk on Saturday evening from North Sea showers too, but not expecting anything particularly widespread or disruptive.

Good stuff - especially because of where you are??

It does look like it's narrowing.
