Wow some temperature drop happening at the moment in the SE

Yes its getting nice and cold further east. Temperatures are holding up a little more here but that's not surprising given the wind direction. Once the snow arrives the air temperature will drop away pretty quickly.

I say holding up, its hardly that mild, currently 1.4c before any precipitation.

I think the Met Office are underplaying Kent quite a bit today.

Maidstone forecast is no snow till 11 but i think it might be here a lot earlier.

Think maybe Medway and west will be rather bad for Kent maybe 7cm-12cm

or am i being a bit to optimistic lol

It would be ironic indeed after all the opprobrium piled on them if the Office got a handle on this from the start. Front looks quite active and is just making landfall on the south coast.

Think the temps have been the biggest upgrade today.

they really have struggled and some places in our region got no where near forecasted.

Well I'm driving from Sidcup back to Medway tomorrow morning. Could be fun.

Hirlam is another upgrade. Coming into line with GFS and the Office’s forecast (which has been pretty consistent since this morning, even yesterday evening)

Indeed. Some places were forecast 6c, managed 3c.

Must be a bit of a temperature gradient. Showing 2.6 here in Three Mile Cross (just south of Reading). Think you mentioned you're about 20 miles south of Reading?

When will the met issue an Amber warning for the south east area. Looks like they are cutting it a bit late atm

Not sure why they would.. majority arrives after rush hour so impact/disruption will be rather limited

Is it reasonable to expect powdery snow as its so cold already increasing the risk of drifting?

Paul!

Just went for a walk and for the FIRST time this winter it actually feels like Winter, the sort of Cold you'd feel when walking in a Blizzard! Also that wind is really picking up and taking your breath away.

Well the max temp up north at my parents house is -4.c with intermittent snowfall.

By contrast its +4.c in London, let's get those temps down

Yep, already a lot of grit put down as I left the office.

Looking great! I'm hoping for between 10-15cm.....may be overly optimistic but who cares!

By the way in terms of amounts, on Net weather radar, the yellow band is about 1 inch an hour snowfall rate, probably an hour from hitting the south coast, but Isle of Wight should give us our first indication of it.

We'll I'm confident that most of us will see snow, for my location the only thing that I'm sure of is the timing, I'm struggling to work that out.

Unless you are me or anyone else on the Essex/Suffolk coast

Predicting rain I guess for us. Not buying it though. -1c dp and 1.4c temp already. So unless there is a rapid uptick with an onshore drift later, that’s boolocks !
