As expected, low pressure has been confirmed now at the surface as well with wind flow showing a nice shift. It seems to be a little further north than the models expected this morning which is also a good thing.

Anyway front still moving northwards and showing no signs at the moment of weakening and shearing off to the east to any great degree. The longer we can keep that low going to our west the better as that will keep feeding the frontal system northwards.

But we don't want it going too far north or more people in the south will get rain earlier

it reminds me of the premature celebrations in the mod thread when everyone thought the easterly was nailed on a couple of weeks back

Clearly joking but not surprised it got a reaction. Some in here seem to take everything so so seriously.

Looking at radar and sat imagery it is clear to me why this front has caused so many headaches, the shear on it makes it look like it could start rotating at numerous positions along it, therefore moving the pivot to a different position.

I don't think that will be an issue this time to be honest, and frankly I'd rather it gets further north then it not getting far enough north to give the heavier stuff. Better to have had snow, than never have snow at all!

Makes a change for us in the south to benefit from a snow event to be honest! Welcomed change from watching everyone up north or in the midlands buried whilst we have rain

I dont mean to be a debbie downer, but the most I am expecting is a semi cover on things like cars, some areas of grass, tops of walls etc of under 1cm, which will melt and disappear by tomorrow lunchtime lol

It's been such a long day of chart and radar watching I'm shattered, might just go to bed early and miss it all anyway

HIRLAM is especially good for those of us in NW Londn, 3-5cm of snow.

Hope you're right but to me Hirlam looks to stall the front a bit too far south for us. GFS 12z showing a greater northward progression but ppn fizzles out very quickly so we'd be lucky to see a couple of cm.

Got another hour of work here in Uxbridge before hitting the road to head back down to Uckfield. MetOffice is suggesting the snow might beat me home...

We haven’t had any lying snow up here all winter.

Best advice is zone into the front edge of the front, then find an object relative to it, and watch its relative forward motion to that thing.

So I'm using the Isle of Wight and watching the front edge. That is helping me to see it is still moving near due N towards the south coast. Just a hint of slowdown in the last 15 minutes.
