Very big, dark clouds bubbling up to the NW of London. I can see them coming from the 4th floor window here (RG41)

Radar hinting at building precip

12z ICON coming out now (two more main suites to go (this and 00z tomorrow) before we should be comfortable with what the final position is likely to be.

Anyway, onto 12z ICON, a little quicker and the band is somewhat weaker on this run, closer to the Euro4 in terms of intensity.

I returned home thinking I had a green hedgehog in the garden, turns out it was just a long clump of grass starting to poke through the snow ❄️

Anyway a little rogue wintry mix or two for some this afternoon

Looking at the Meto app, ukv has the precip arriving even later for herts and nothing but light snowfall to the morning .... starting to feel like this will struggle to swing back .....

Yes the models seem to be restricting the heaviest pulses now to within 20 miles of the coast, any further shifts and that will stay in the channel. Will be interesting to see what the other models show, still just about ok for the south of this region, but starting to look like a slow and light fall as the front pivots for the rest of the region.

might be why MET UK havent upgraded from Yellow to Amber

Does anyone know of any other live satellite sites as en.sat24.com appears to be out of action.

Being only 10 miles inland, for once, I might be in a good spot tomorrow.

I still think somewhere like Crowborough will be a sweet spot though. Always hog the snow that lot!

I have to say ICON is quite a lot weaker this run with the band, even the south doesn't get too impressive rates it has to be said. I'd be right on the boundary between light and moderate snow according to this run. We will see.

ARPEGE also out at 12z. Similar look to ICON but not quite much shearing of the front as on ICON, also longer lasting as well on this run than the ICON due to the movement and less forward speed.

What less forward speed does mean however is even less latitude gain. However it IDSS a fair bit snowier than the ICON.

12z ICON is broadly 1-2cms, with maybe a little more close to the coast (3-4cms there). ARPEGE goes for 4-6cms quite widely still.

Don't think we are really going to know until the front arrives...providing it does...arrive!

Gritters etc are all prepped for tonight's icy forecast..............The surprise ppn showing on the radar is also being monitored by the Croydon Council........Tomorrow is going to be interesting as the snow is due during the latter part of the rush hour

Met Office is going for snow at 10pm tomorrow now, so maybe no rush hour chaos after all? Disappointing

Update from Southeastern

Update: Winter Weather Timetable on Friday 1 February

Hello,

As promised, we’re emailing to update you on the timetable we plan to run this week.

We’ll run our Winter Weather Timetable on Friday 1st February, as bad weather is forecast. Train times will be different and Peak services will be busier, so please travel earlier or later to avoid the busiest trains.

Snow is expected to start falling from Thursday evening, so travel earlier if you can to avoid the winter weather.

The other day showers weren’t forecast but formed around this time. We even had a crack of thunder.
