For those asking why they had rain this morning when others had snow...

This upper air sounding (a plot of height through the atmosphere on the Y axis (units: mb) and temperatures on the X axis (units Celsius) highlights the tricky precipitation type associated with this morning's trough. A small 'warm' (>0°C) layer melted the falling snow to rain, which then became supercooled in the shallow cold layer below = freezing rain, forming instant ice on impact with ground. This warmer layer mainly affected the western half of the precipitation, hence Northants / Beds / Peterborough etc experiencing freezing rain. Warm nose was less-pronounced farther east, and so Norfolk / Suffolk and down into Kent etc had snow falling in places and a dusting.

You had snow yesterday on the coast.  My friend lives in Herne bay and they had snow.  There were loads of snow showers in your area where as here we had sun and partially cloudy skies.

it must have been very local because here on the borders of margate/ramsgate all we had was sleet and then rain

I wouldn't worry that much, the Friday chart is still a week away, lots more potentially interesting stuff between now and then.

Now getting heavier and starting to lay here on sheppey really didn't expect this where did this come from.

A few light snow flurries in new ash green this morning has given way to lighter drizzle...

thats the one big problem with snow and that is hoping it doesnt melt very quickly

I suppose I should be glad I've had nothing, at least can't be disappointed with nothing.

Anyway a very good 06z for our area, always more marginal further south but there is still plenty of good stuff to look forward to on this run. Also think the snow would hold for longer in the south than the operational is suggesting in the set-ups it shows

Control run actually puts the low further south come Sunday meaning we are very much in the picture as long as it doesn't change too much!

There are some legitimate Channel low set-ups on a couple of those GFS runs, with some very tight gradients (5-6C within 30 miles). Control run is also better for our region for sure.

Long to go yet though everyone, a REALLY long way!
