Mild & dry.

The transition to cold is predicted overnight -

Ended up with 5cm of snow here in St albans been thawing a lot this morning though which is abit disappointing !

Biggest snowflakes I've ever seen in my 40 years last night - only amounted to about 1cm of settled snow but some of the flakes must have been about 5cm in diameter I think, amazing stuff.

The mid and long range MO updates keep us well in the game. Only subtle changes but mention more of a risk of snow in “the east” so a definite upgrade in my book.

Hi all

Just logged in (first time this winter)  to share some photos from my sweetspot in High Wycombe. The roads were utter carnage here from around 3.30pm. 

It came down quick and we got about 10cm.

Looking foreward to the the rest of winter now.

I like to think of this winter as a slow walk down the beach and into the sea as oppose to jumping straight off the end of the pier.

Still think theres a good chance of making it out to the end of the pier though.

Tell you something the predicted Temps today have been very wrong esp for the east of our region. Predicted were 4c to 5c and the reality has been 1c to 2c in places

my garden tells me it's +2.3, but clear and sunny. The man in the van who cleans our bin thinks its freezing. Feels colder now than this morning.

As I do a lot of travelling around our region I thought I'd share some pics with you I've taken since this morning-the first 2 in Kent 3rd one near J 12 M25 in Surrey and last pic with the sheep in East Berks taken just now still a smattering of snow patches in the shade in some parts

A few round the village have said colder than first thing this morning.

Just had another long chat with local Meteorologist, Ian Currie.

Ian thinks our chances of seeing some snowfall over the next couple of weeks, have increased. He's still of the opinion that the threat of snow, is still likely to come from the North, rather than the East, for the time being. His thoughts for February in general, havn't changed. He thinks it will be quite a bit colder, than what we've seen so far this Winter.

He didn't have any snowfall at his Weather Station yesterday, in Storrington, West Sussex. It's very sheltered there and a bit of a frost hollow. He's recorded some sharp frosts over the last few nights .Not sure which order these were recorded in but he's seen Minima of -4c, -6c and -8c.

Mr.Currie did experience some snow yesterday, on his way back from a talk, at a Care Home, in Epsom. 

He's also kindly agreed to perform a talk at the Residential Care Home in Chislehurst, where my Wife works.

A little later, I want to return to a subject that Canadian Coops mentioned the other day, snow making Channel Lows.

I'll also post up another couple of photos with Ian Currie's kind permission, from his Kent and Surrey Weather Books.

Met office jumping on the wintry showers risk later on in the night... 

I know one thing is for sure.. It's going to be bitter tonight. 

Will post up some charts later as it's a bit hit and miss maybe some freeizing rain if the showers hit a bit after early morning?

Thanks @TomSE12 and I am looking forward to your post about Channel Lows. I have heard them mentioned but haven't as yet been able to find much info. (I am genuinely almost as excited waiting for this as I am for the snow. I love your posts.  ).

Wouldn't pay too much attention to that, its swings and roundabouts at the moment - the meto are struggling to keep track of it. Blame the Canada vortex! Charts flip flopping like anything on a daily basis but generally trending unfavourably, but we'll have to see until nearer the time.

Wouldn't be surprised to see another meto update tomorrow downplaying snow potential
