Was -4 here in beautiful rural Hertfordshire this morning, as my u18 game fell to the weather.

Now upto -2.5 but a glorious morning, if a tad chilly.

Lovely to see a good air frost, down to -1.6c here on the Essex Riviera and still frost on the ground which is something we have not seen enough of this winter. On another note potential building in lala land for another attempt of decent cold air, anybody got enough energy for another chase?

Well temperatures remained above freezing all night in Thanet - ridiculous

-1.6c minimum this morning in Burnham and according to moogyboobles further inland in South Woodham by 7 miles -4c - seems like a still relatively warm North sea having it's effect on coastal areas?

FGS people are still not looking for cold are they, the pattern is set in stone this winter, cold always out in lala land and remaining in lala land. I'm afraid this winter is a huge dud

There will be a cold front from the NW on Monday night which will fall as rain to start with during the early hours on Tuesday.

As this front continues to move in, the upper temps -4C will undercut this rain band and quickly turn to heavy snow for a few hours.

Due to the cooling effect, the snow will settle.

This will be a testing time as the snow will fall around rush hour.

There are signs it will stay cold until Saturday which will only herald slight milder temps before the next colder plunge sets in.

As always, Subject To Change ❄️❄️

Based on this chart it shows uppers of -7/-8 with a spike in precip. Surely that’d be snow? Are the upper air temps being underplayed do you think? I’m hopeful for a snow event from this

I should have included -8 as well .........Also, have you noticed how today's GFS 6Z has gone for a more colder period until Saturday? Interesting times ahead ❄️

Most certainly and the cloud covering possibly as well.

We did just drop below 0C on Friday night but it wasn't cold enough for a hard frost to form due to some cloud cover. Temperatures are chilly though and are hovering just above freezing but there is no real temperature difference between day and night.

Nice morning. Good to get back from a walk and not be up to your armpits in mud. Found some good lengths of hazel for making walking sticks.

Had a long power cut last night so spending time resetting clocks. Apparently someone had a car accident that blacked out a good part of NE Chelmsford. Haven’t dared look in the greenhouse yet to see how my stock plants fared with no heat.

If you have a problem with power cuts and want an idea of what is going on check out. https://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/power-cut

Stunning drive to Ramsden Heath for my daughters Footy match this morning with the Temperature at a freezing cold 25f (-4c) and like the poster above the game fell to the weather gods with the Penalty area like concrete. If they had put the Kick Off back from 10am to Noon I am certain it would have gone ahead.

Rain turning to wet snow the Main course we can look forward to this week, then Slug exerts some influence with Sunny and Cloudy days, warmer for the weekend with temps back to average

Yaaaaaaawn

Yes it looks more positive. I did think it’d settle in the middle from the amazing charts of last week to the dire ones early weekend. Definitely interesting times ahead ❄️

Indeed. And on the back of it read Told You So.

Mr Bett called it right all along, remained his normal calm dull and boring self all through last week and didn't get overly excited like some of his met office colleagues. They must be feeling rather foolish now.

I must try and get into this forecasting mularky. You can clearly be rubbish yet keep your job!!?

Well the bbc news 24 latest forecast have the front passing through the SE AS AN ALL RAIN event although after which we may get the odd wintry shower afterwards.sadly think they will be right.Downs and children’s may get a temporary covering if they are lucky.Amazing as soon as front reaches N France it all turns to snow but then dew points are so much colder(-6 to-8)).Incredible how about 30-50 miles makes so much difference(from East Kent)

I always worry when I see snow forecast to cover the 'children', Hotspur!

Anywho, I expect that the greatest danger might (overnight frost permitting) come not from snow but from cold rain/sleet/wet snow falling onto frozen ground? Not a pleasant breakfast-time commute...?:unsure2:

here's hoping - settling snow though from a maritime north westerly is pretty rare for us low land southern dwellers with the UHI of London to the North of us !!

The ECMWF has so far not showed any snow away from higher ground in the north and west of England along (back edge of) the front sweeping SE Monday night, GFS precipitation charts have, but would ignore them.

However, the cold NWly flow on Tuesday could feed in showers through the Cheshire Gap then through the Midlands towards London + SE in the afternoon which could fall as snow looking at progged DPs and temps, seen this happen quite a few times.
