This is the third day without any sunshine.  Stratus clouds have completely blocked the sun and there are no breaks in the clouds.  Frost was promised two days ago and it never materialised which is due that stratus clouds came back with vengeance and keeping  the temperatures mild.  I doubt the temperatures are going to lower than 4°C.

Love this Forum. Building blocks are beginning to fall into place a whole month and a half earlier than last year. shorter days colder nights... yes thos is a ramp but if it comes off i expect this to be epic

An utterly vile day: 4.6C, wall-to-wall grot with the added delight of drizzle showers. This why I didn't want the GFS to be too far east, last week!

I wanted to post this while I still remembered, people are talking bout the polar vortex splitting, why does that happen and what does that usually mean for us?? Sorry if I sound stupid asking The question ☺️☺️

Donna did anyone explain this to you.

If not here goes in the winter we look at the vortex one over northeastern canada/ north east us and one over the pole. If at soem point it successfully splits then it means that the pole version of the vortex moves closer to the scandinavian side of our globe, will icrease our chances of a cold shot. the one thing that really controls our weather as it did 13/14 winter was a strong polar vortexx, gradient of temperature differences between the cold northestern lobe and the relatively mild atlantic leads to anti cyclonic dross storm after storm.

looks great heavy snow showers settling - we can dream ...cant see it dropping to -8c in London tonight although it does at least feel cold ... maybe a cheeky -1c tonight?

It’s lovely to see! Very seasonal. Though I wasn’t expecting such strong winds on Monday, had gusts of 55mph. Hopefully something colder for the UK soon. Been a very dreary couple of months.

I definitely think some people need to take some time off model watching. It’s a painful read in there

Thurrock is forecasted to have anything from -1° down to -3° minimum temperatures for the early hours of tomorrow morning.  It has been so long since I last saw any proper sunshine and I doubt it will be sunny tomorrow, just the same overcast and dreary weather.

Haven't had a look but would have thought they'd be happy as. They spend 8 months of the year looking for high pressure?? Well it's been here for an age and will be here for an age so what are they moaning about.

Noticeably much colder this evening. Really taken a dive temperature wise. Even the cat isn't liking it, he's sprawled out by the radiator which is rare for him.

Anyone catch Darren Mild Bett on BBC news channel earlier this afternoon?

Darren: “Let’s talk snow”

newsreader: “snow for the UK, according to reports it’s coming”

Darren: “no it isn’t - it’s in Central and Eastern Europe”

*cue his snow videos of Austria and Estonia

He then went on to blab about the omega block and how no snow is due here and that we need the orientation of the HP to change for the UK to get cold, claiming that Atlantic wind and rain will be back next week.

Lets hope the mild warrior is proved wrong.

ECM ends up a bit of a car crash but certainly no sign of the Atlantic coming through. I’m not sure the likes of Darren Bett have covered themselves in glory unless they know something we don’t of course

No potential in F1 (utterly boring)...but looking at FI  240+ I'm seeing potential which will become less so in another day or so's time followed by sporadic charts showing further severe potential!

That’s right @shotski

Bold move claiming wind and rain dominance next week. Must be his mild loving soaking Atlantic weather mind taking over.

No cold weather set in stone in the reliable of course, but even less likely a week of rain and wind as Darren mild Bett hopes.

Much colder day in Broadstairs - took my gloves off for 5 minutes to set up my camera, before frantically putting them back on again. December 15th was the last time with similar conditions and that was only for one day.
