Just nudging above zero now from -0.5C (probably slightly elevated due to tree singificant tree canopy still). Glorious sunshine and blue sky - yet odd really fine snowflakes keep fluttering down incredibly slowly from a hint of haze above us. It's beautiful.

One of my more favoured measure of cold - I've checked the ice in the upturned lid we use to give birds a drink and it is 5mm thick. Not exactly the same range of information as I will get from the new weather station I have just been bought but sometimes less is more.

We had hail this afternoon to add to the morning's few dozen flakes of snow. 8.2C high.  BBC/Meteo say 8C here at the end of the afternoon. I've got 2.8C just now and can feel the heat sucking out of the windows. What time does afternoon end? Will they have gritters out? It's looking likely to be well below the 3C minimum predicted.
