New Weather Station

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

I'm looking at replacing my aging Nexus weather station, does anyone have any recommendations? My budget is £150. The only criteria are: it must be wireless and USB link to my weather PC for uploading to Wunderground/web site.

Mods, I hope this is the right area, if you think it would be better elsewhere, please move.

For £150 these are the only 2 products I would recommend to be worth buying.

They are however both "WiFi" wireless weather stations, so the console uploads straight to Wunderground/WeatherCloud without the need of a USB or computer.

This does however limit your data to these websites rather than collecting on your own software.

I have 3 of the first station and 13 of the second station, and whilst they are not perfect, for your small budget they are by far the most reliable.

If your desperate for one that has an USB link for your own website and data collection then you will probably have to get something like this but from experience they don't last very long before something breaks.

There are some rumblings that Wunderground could just shut down the PWS uploads and not even allow you to access your own data - hopefully after due warning if you wanted to download it.
They haven't seemed over enthusiastic with support for a while.
It might not happen but I'd advise not to rely on them entirely.

That would be devastating if they did Colin, amount of money I've spent getting my network of stations set up.

Was always a risk but there's no way I can afford 20 Davis stations, so just going to have to keep my fingers crossed, at least the Blakey one will be safe :)

Thanks for the heads up, Colin. I've had all sorts of little niggles with Wunderground recently. I've only just got it working again, although the last problem was due to me fiddling with my software (PCWetterstation) and accidentally clicking on a tick box which disabled my barometer :( I think I would prefer to manage my own data and share it with who I choose.

I could set up my NAS box as a web server and host my own data. A lot to think about. Oregon Scientific WMR89 is looking good at the moment.

Yes mine is on WOW, if Wunder shuts down I would just need to re code the Pi at Lion Inn to send to different websites.

Would have to wave goodbye to Low Mill, Rosedale, Chop Gate, Goathland, Grosmont and Cold Kirby so lets hope it never comes to that.
