The ice around the pole and at most of the highest latitudes did stay rather compact unlike in 2016 and 2017 where it was rather diffused and looked in a poor state really, hopefully that will be the case again this year.

Be interesting what sort of summer we will get though, with El Nino i wonder if any extra warmth will create ridge pattens that may lead to a high pressure type of summer but i guess its too early to say.

At the moment the weather patterns are not good on paper, lots of 'warmth' heading in via the bering stright and again we are going too see bering sea free of ice virtually as we head into April and like last year, more early inrodes into the Chuckchi sea.

This year even the Kara sea looks like it could have an early retreat and weather patterns are not good either with constant strong southerly winds. Complete contrast to last year where it was quite cold and northerly winds dominated. One to watch for sure.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
