What are peoples hopes and thoughts on this coming winter? The jet stream has been crazy this year so I am thinking a stormy Winter with some very warm December days. And beast from the East may just possibly may get an attack the way blocking has been so far this year.

Cold winter is what I want. But I'm sensing a zonal, not too stormy winter, and probably a cooler than usual zonal winters

Been as we're now approaching solar minimum and last Winter was the coldest and most snowy since 2013 (many places didn't get much or any snow until the end of Winter/beginning of Spring I know, but here we had some snow every month I think, plus a big snow event in early December) so I'm hopeful that it was the start of a trend of colder and more snowy Winters and therefore I feel there's a fairly good chance that next Winter could be just as good or better.

I thought until recently a cold winter was likely but I'm trending back towards exceptionally mild now. Probably some insanely rapid jet and Bartlett high likely.

It might be better simply to say: I don't know? That's what I'm doing...:D

Yep, far too early for this, we're barely a week into Autumn. We'll revisit this in a month when we may have the slightest chance of actually having a half-decent stab in the dark at how winter will pan out. We might as well have threads open for next summer otherwise...

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
