Yikes, 85 feet in old money.

Imagine if wave heights are similar as it approaches land at high tide and the narrowness of some of the estuaries around there. Serious flooding indeed.

Storm looks less threatening on the UKMO, difficult to tell as you cant zoom in to the area on any site im aware of but the isobars look less tight.

Seathaite in the lakes recieved 211mm in the floods and that was devastating honister got 340 mm in  24 hours in 2015 leaving Cumbria  with an 800 million clean up bill

But you have to remember the eye is currently 30 miles across and the hurricane winds 100 miles. The eye wall will be 5-10 miles out from the edge of the eye. 

So for all purposes Wilmington for example will have 24 hrs of cat 4 winds before the hurricane slows down to only 100kts before the centre reaches the coast. 

I’ll be honest, looking At this I would expect 70-80% of the city of Wilmington to be destroyed. 

The UKMO reflects the comments you made about damage to Wilmington, I don't think with modern building codes damage will be quite to the extent you mention, but serious damage nonetheless!

They might be mad but the storm surge should only be 1 to 3 feet above normal there as there is a large expanse of water behind it . Levels will be far worse on the mainland where water will be pushed up estuaries and rivers which will be swollen with flood water at the same time. Places such as Washington, New Bern and Greensville will se far more affected by water, ocracoke will just be smashed by the winds.....

Indeed ,similar to tsunamis  where inlet funneling  plays a part

The GFS forecasts it to sit in pretty much the same position for 24 hours after that time, if it does...…..
