Going to be a cold one tonight, was 3c 30mins ago already down to 0c, skies clearing too, can only hope showers reinvigorate, convection will be dying away now.

Still looking good for the Cheshire gang - Crewe cold and C.S. Also down into the north Midlands. Think the Staff moorlands could get plastered.

Got a temporary covering but in truth, unless your high on a hill, it isn't cold enough..

Hopefully we will see an easterly before mid Feb, NW winds are not the best unless the uppers are -8/-9/-10.

edit : will likely be very icy tonight if skies clear round here..

If Liverpool and Manchester TAFs say heavy snow showers later that’s quite likely I’d say

The closest fell to me is called Dent which is 352M asl, and there isn't any snow on there so no hope for me but can see snow on the fells further inland.

In fact it doesn't even snow up there very often despite it being high up.

Yes it was that second main band of snow which sadly lost a bit of it's shape and intensity as it reached the eastern parts of the region.  Yet a band of snow travelling the same distance seemed to pep-up as it reached parts of Oxford down south and left a decent covering there.  Most of what fell here as turned back to it's watery grave... but might freeze overnight.

I would take 0.5cm right now, just enough to turn everything white then freeze so it lasts a while tomorrow, fgs.

Fantastic day up at Dove Stone planting trees. Heavy snow showers on and off and when the trough came through some very big flakes, Left 2 or 3cm which Im happy with as a first snowfall. Most of it is melting now though except above 250m.

Snow cover mostly melted from pavements and roads now. Will be treacherous if skies clear and this all freezes.

All depends what happens later.

Last night's forecasts were heavy snow showers to push across Greater Manchester this evening, but UKV and Euro4 have backed off a bit from this and show snow being restricted to SW of the region. This change came about as late as this morning!

Euro4 now shows this for 21z today for instance https://expert-images.images-weatheronline.com/daten/proficharts/web/en/euro4/2019/01/22/basis06/ukuk/prec/19012221_2206.gif

and at 00z https://expert-images.images-weatheronline.com/daten/proficharts/web/en/euro4/2019/01/22/basis06/ukuk/prec/19012300_2206.gif

Still very uncertain, but looking less good for Greater Manchester/Lancs, better for Cheshire, especially West of the county.

Frustratingly, the temps/altitude isn't so much of an issue, it would be cold enough for snow in Manchester after dark, but I'm not sure if we're going to get the forecasted showers now.

These situations are always fickle, and one person's gain means someone else misses out.
