North West Regional thread 01/09/18 Onwards......

Even though NW winds bring more snow falling from the sky I still think that I would rather have an easterly with less precipitation. As normally it's dryer, colder with lower dew points, so last longer rather than a wet slopping which soon melts. Today is a lovely exception due to fog keeping temps down, even when it does clear temps will struggle to recover.

The perfect scenario is Polar NW with light winds, heavy, beefy showers slow moving all night...followed by a direct northerly from a Greenland high and ice days.

The 06GFS puts us back into a NW flow from Monday with temperatures similar to what we have just experienced plus similar conditions looks like lasting longer than the current snap

All in all great news if you live in SE England not to good for the Cheshire members😁

Still below -1C here. But the sun is gathering strength every day now. And like others, everywhere is steaming. It actually feels warm to the skin. Soon we will be at that stage where sun out is game over for white ground

Still below zero here with freezing fog, everything covered in a glaze of ice.

I can see the freezing fog looking towards Stalybridge.

It's creeping nearer with its icy fingers

What a stunning morning to be out and about in Saddleworth, everything white except the sky which is breathtakingly clear. 😎

More snow possible tonight, but much more marginal as higher dewpoints are likely to push in.

Rain for Greater Manchester, could be some snow for the hills/Peak District though.

It is marginal, so snow possible but I'd be cautious and suggest rain.

Will has the height, in fact he is probably looking over the fog.

I'm 500 feet lower so I'll stick with the rain as per Manchester

Sunny but cold.  Still a dusting of snow from overnight showers at the front of the building which is sheltered from the sun.  Very icy this morning.  Overnight min. -2.5C

UKV now showing 80% chance of heavy snow at 4am, temp 1C. Manchester city centre.

I'd laugh if we woke up to a covering of snow tomorrow morning!

Yes radar has ppn moving in from the NW  - anything possible over snowcover with these low temps.

Still -1c and a low level fog has descended on Oldham so we might scrape an ice day after all.  Had a quick trip to top of buckstones road and it was cold (obv. Snowy) & sunny up there.  You could see the fog lying over oldham.

Weird how some places didn’t get settling snow last night.

drove to work via Bolton & Farnworth and they had plenty. Down to walkden and it was patchy, got to worsley and it was green. Nothing in Manchester City centre

still got decent snow cover here now.

Unfortunately very much in the nature of showers, would be nice to get a big polar low to bury everybody's houses to be honest.
