met office had me down for snow at this time. its sleeting (i think) why have i got a feeling it will be too wet for anything to stick if and when it does turn.

No. We still might see surprises today. Convective cooling can make all the difference. Just need some heavier bursts then Bingo.

Don't expect anything until later on for lower levels as Chris was saying, heavy snow will stick as ground cools later

Not necessarily, depends on how heavy + evaporative cooling.

 

Seen sodden surfaces freeze over and give way to layers of snow before, it can happen.
