If it turns pink after it leaves the Wigan area I’m in business.

They are only 8 miles away but about 300 feet lower than me.

Yep. Not holding out any hope all the way down here.

Just come back home and it seems we had a heavy shower of ice pellets earlier as the ground is covered in them still. Also seems like there was some lightning around the Wirral associated with that shower. Hopefully I haven’t missed anything interesting although probably wouldn’t of heard it from here anyway.

 2.9°C, moderate rain currently.

Just been on the edge of snowy precipitation, we've had a sleety wintry mix, but not cold enough to settle. Expecting more of the same through the night - though if it is quite heavy we might see a cover.

Tomorrow promises more general snow around lunchtime and into the afternoon - it might start off quite light and sleety in the morning, or it could be an earlier event, with snow starting mid morning.

I think tomorrow evening and overnight Wednesday could throw a few surprises with trough formation. Wednesday morning looks very dicey, lots of ice about.

Lets leave Thursday for now.

Showers are falling as sleety rain here too. Uppers aren’t in place yet.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
