I  remember the day of the zeebrugge disaster  woke up to 6 inches of snow and it had all melted by midday.  Think that came up from the south west

I think that was a stalling front coming up against a Scandi high a bit like March 2006. Remember that well, was building a snowman with the snow falling

Yes, not quite sure how it can only affect one precipitation type- as you say, it doesn't stop the rain. I certainly have no explanation for it.

You aren't the only ones ... we have the same shadow effect here where snow is concerned .... and again it doesn't have the same effect when the rain comes from the same direction

Radar interesting. That red blob that's developed off Southport has Manchester and the Peak District's name on it

Chris R would have liked that February 1994 one, 12cm of snow for Crosby. Not a bad effort for a coastal location for a stalling front

Trying to jog my memory as I was 16 then, I remember a cracking snowfall when I was in sixth form maybe that was it.

Proper heavy rain shower about to hit, shame as it looks like it will pack a punch!

I think that was the event when I lived in Rufford Lancashire, the snow was really deep and the canal froze over, amazing!! I have photographs somewhere, will try and find them

Just to highlight how hopeless the apps are, i just had a nosy at Moorside Oldham, meto app thinks there will be continuous heavy snow showers from 9m until midnight....

There won't be, unless the radar explodes into life very shortly..

If it turns pink after it leaves the Wigan area I’m in business.

They are only 8 miles away but about 300 feet lower than me.

I dunno with how slow these showers seem to be moving.

I have as well. Not fussed.

Any snow we get daytime tomorrow is a bonus as far as I’m concerned.

Met O just shows sleet and rain and a occassional drizzle tommorow. To be frank I feel otherwise.
