METO has a decent classic battleground for the NW Tuesday on latest forecast :shok:

...no warnings?

Whilst I've seen decent settling from rain to snow events, it would do the nerves some good if these heavy rain symbols tomorrow afternoon on the met office forecast turned to heavy snow.

Meh! Let's worry about Thursday after tomorrow.

Yup, think height will help tomorrow morning . Last Tuesday was all snow in my area from the Monday night.

For here at least i think we are going to have to wait until the main band of ppn moves through and look to rely on any showers that come afterwards.  Those forecasts posted above off the met office web site show what a difference 10 miles can make when temps are on the borderline between rain and snow.

Looking at the temps for the rest of the week if anyone gets snow tomorrow it may stick around for a while.

Why?

Basing purely off observations of snow fall in the past, it'll take quite a few hours for that heavy snow to settle on the ground, due to the wet surface from the heavy rain directly preceding it. It probably will settle eventually as it's only a bit of rain but there's really nothing worse than watching snow melt into rainwater.

It's like the myth that never dies

I've seen an inch of rain followed by 2 inches of snow

Further details

A band of rain will arrive across Wales, northern and western England through the middle of Tuesday, then move eastwards through Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rain will turn quickly to snow on hills, then also to low levels in places. 3 to 5 cm snow is likely above 200 metres, with up to 10 cm in a few places. A patchy covering of 1 to 2 cm is possible at low levels, although some places will see no snow at all. As skies clear overnight, ice is likely to form on some surfaces. In addition, wintry showers will follow into western areas on Wednesday morning, giving further slight accumulations of snow in a few places.

I'm going for rain low ground but possibly turning to sleet and wet snow on the back edge of preciptation belt. Depending how heavy the preciptation determines how quick it turns to snow and hence accumulations.

Its a difficult one this. I remember the start of the cold zonality of March 1995. It started off as rain then all of sudden there was a blast of ice pellets then straight into snow which started to stick when the precipitation was starting to clear.

20th March 1989, a bit like tomorrow. Front crossed through during the early afternoon, started off as rain but you could see it turning wintrier and wintrier and by late afternoon, it was snowing and sticking readily just before it cleared.
